18、t Process, Test Methods and Performance 3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1. Standards of the American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) and specified commercial standards are incorporated herein by reference. Attention is called to the fact that all preservatives are not equally effective on all species o

19、f wood or under all conditions of exposure. The engineer preparing the plans and specifications should select the type of preservatives, retentions, and species best suited for the purpose and conditions. 3.2. International Code Council Evaluation Service, Inc. (ICC-ES) requirements and specified co

20、mmercial standards are incorporated herein by reference. Treated wood product reports issued by the ICC-ES as Evaluation Service Reports (ESRs) must be current as posted on the ICC-ES website www.icc-es.org and in compliance with AC326. The treated wood products report must allow for the end use tha

21、t is required by the project specifications. 4. TIMBER QUALITY 4.1. The properties of the timber selected for preservative treatment shall conform to the requirements of M 168. 5. PRESERVATIVE QUALITY 5.1. The following named preservatives are acceptable in this specification. The properties shall b

25、47 5.2. The following preservative systems are acceptable by means of a published and current ICC-ES Report (ESR) and are in compliance with AC326: 5.2.1. Micronized Copper Quaternary (MCQ) 5.2.2. Micronized Copper Azole (MCA) 5.2.3. Dispersed Copper Azole Type C (CA-C or MCA-C) 6. PRESERVATIVE TREA

26、TMENT PROCESSES AND RESULTS 6.1. Wood products shall be treated in accordance with the ICC-ES Evaluation Report or AWPA Standard U1Use Category System: User Specification for Treated Wood. A Use Category appropriate for the application shall be established in accordance with Standard U1 Sections 2 a

27、nd 3. Specific requirements for various commodities can then be found in Section 6. 6.1.1. Sawn ProductsU1, Section 6, Commodity Specification A (includes all sawn products). 6.1.2. Round Timber PilingU1, Section 6, Commodity Specification E. 6.1.3. Round PolesU1, Section 6, Commodity Specification

28、D (16 ft or longer). 6.1.4. Round PostsU1, Section 6, Commodity Specification B (less than 16 ft long). 6.1.5. Wood CompositesU1, Section 6, Commodity Specification F (includes plywood). 6.2. Field treatment of cuts, holes, and injuries to treated wood products shall be in accordance with AWPA Stand

29、ard M4. 7. INSPECTION AND MARKING 7.1. Treatment shall conform to the quality requirements described in the ICC-ES Evaluation Report or AWPA M3, Standard Quality Control Procedures for Wood Preserving Plants. The wood treater shall apply to each piece of treated timber a legible brand, mark, or tag

30、indicating the name of the treater and the specification symbol or requirement to which the treatment conforms. Acceptable symbols of compliance shall be similar to brands listed in AWPA M6, or as provided for in the plans or special provisions. 2016 by the American Association of State Highway and

The engineer shall be provided adequate facilities and free access to the necessary parts of the treating plant for inspection of material, workmanship, and treating processes, to de

32、termine that the contract requirements are met. Inspection of the treatment and products shall conform to the requirements of AWPA M2, Standard for Inspection of Wood Products Treated with Preservatives. The engineer reserves the right to retest all materials after delivery to the job site and to re

33、ject all materials that do not meet the requirements of the contract. Reinspection at the job site may include assay to determine retention of preservatives and extraction and analysis of preservative to determine its quality. 8. METHODS OF SAMPLING AND TESTING 8.1. The sampling and testing of wood

34、preservatives shall be in accordance with the following standard methods of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), and the American Wood Protection Association (AWPA): 8.1.1.
