、rance How can education be defined? A very interesting answer goes like this, “Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance. “ It means, from my point of view, the more we have learned, the more we will find we need to learn. One of the reasons for education is that we are eager to get

、rid of ignorance. Frankly speaking, this goal can hardly be fully achieved. For one thing, the massive amounts of information in the constantly developing world makes it impossible for anyone to acquire it all. For another, our limited time and energy usually confine us to only a tiny part of the kn

、owledge world, with the rest untouched. Chances are that education helps us realize the situation more clearly. However, the discovery of our ignorance, rather than a discouragement, is a real stimulus for us to keep learning. The newly acquired knowledge will frequently expose us to some unfamiliar

、 but intriguing domains. The continuous acquisition of such new knowledge clearly manifests the value of education. Since ignorance, in a sense, seems to be the result and drive of education at the same time, it is reasonable to keep receiving education in all our life. In other words, a lifelong ed

、ucation is the very cure for our ignorance. 2 【正确答案】 How to Face Fear? Fear is a natural feeling caused by the possibility of danger, pain, etc. As for the attitude toward it, I heartily agree with the quote “If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have

、been. “ That is to say, we should face up to fear and be the master of it. Fear tends to result from our exaggerating the possible unfavorable conditions. When overwhelmed by the exaggeration of uncertainty, we can unconsciously slip into the feeling of fear, which in turn worsens the situation. Bei

、ng a slave of dread may also cause us to underestimate our ability and belittle ourselves. We will never fulfill our potential before we make an attempt. Once endeavoring to approach a seemingly formidable task, we will reasonably gain a better understanding of it and more self-confidence. Admittedl

、y, a certain amount of fear could help us take the difficulties seriously and keep prudent. Nevertheless, we should never be crushed by fear. We can often encourage ourselves with Franklin Roosevelts noted words “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. “ 3 【正确答案】 A Man Is Known by the Company

、 He Keeps As a well-known proverb goes, “A man is known by the company he keeps. “ We are supposed to be friends with those who have outstanding qualities and stay away from those who have bad habits or vulgar tastes or no ambitions. It is especially true for the following reasons. For one thing, go

、od company is important for the image of a person in society. If a person falls into some bad company, people around him will probably have a low opinion of him because of the bad image created by his bad company. In contrast, one who interacts with people of good qualities is welcome in most circum

、stances. For another, good company is important for a persons deeds and behavior as well. Though it is also said that a man is known by his deeds, at times the good deeds are possibly marred by his bad company. Moreover, if a person himself is of good qualities but his associates or friends are of i

、nferior qualities, then a time comes when the bad company starts influencing his good deeds. As college students, we should interact with upright and knowledgeable people and spend time with those who can positively influence us. Only in this way can we make progress and perfect ourselves. 4 【正确答案】

、: Pride Goes Before a Fall “Pride goes before a fall“ is such a well-known proverb that I believe all of us are familiar with it. I fully agree with it and its implication. In my view, the greatness of this proverb can be justified in three respects. First, if you allow yourself to take too much pri

、de in your temporary achievements, you are very likely to stop working hard and no longer will you make any progress. In this case, you will most probably fail next time. Second, history has taught us that most great men were characterized by admirable modesty, which, as far as I am concerned, is vi

、tal to their success. Third, looking at things in the long run, we will find that some of our achievements, though rather encouraging, do not constitute the reason for us to be truly proud, because life is never short of obstacles and we had better keep vigilant all the time. It is an age when most

、people are hardworking in the face of fierce competition, thus modesty is more than necessary. If we stay modest in proper situations, we can make progress constantly, thus our life will be more meaningful. 5 【正确答案】 Being Happy With Little Achievements With regard to the views about what is happines

、s, people do not always agree with each other. Benjamin Franklin once remarked, “Human felicity is produced not so much by great pieces of good fortune that seldom happen, as by little advantages that occur every day.“ From my perspective, what is conveyed by the remark is that we should be happy wi

、th little achievements in our daily life rather than set our eyes only on a slim chance of great fortune. Being happy with little achievements can benefit a person in more than one way. In the first place, it can help to cultivate a good mentality, which in turn may well contribute to greater succes

、s. In the second place, it can help to avoid the feeling of frustration arising from the pressures of work and study, as well as minimize the depression due to unrealistic comparison. However, satisfaction with little achievements does not mean that we are totally happy with the way things are and refuse to make progress. But rather, it implies that we shouldnt lose sight of the seemingly insignificant delights that everyday life presents to us when we are pursuing big aims. Only by accumulating experience from little achievements can we have the day when a great fortune is awaiting us.
