Acceptable to the authority having juris-diction.3.2.2* Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). The organiza-tion, office, or individual responsible for approving

A standard that is an extensive compilation ofprovisions covering broad subject matter or that is suitable foradoption into law independently of other codes and standards.3.2.4 Labeled. Equipment or materials to which has beenattac

37、hed a label, symbol, or other identifying mark of an orga-nization that is acceptable to the authority having jurisdictionand concerned with product evaluation, that maintains peri-odic inspection of production of labeled equipment or mate-rials, and by whose labeling the manufacturer indicates com-

Equipment, materials, or services included in alist published by an organization that is acceptable to the au-thority having jurisdiction and concerned with evaluation ofproducts or services, that maintains periodi

A department store or major merchan-dising center that has direct access to the covered mall but inwhich all required means of egress is independent of the cov-ered mall.3.3.5 Area.3.3.5.1 Floor Area.3.3.5.1.1 Gross Leasable Area. The total floor area desig-nated for tena

42、nt occupancy and exclusive use, expressed insquare meters (square feet), measured from the centerlines ofadjoining partitions and exteriors of outside walls.3.3.5.1.2 Hazardous Area. An area of a structure or buildingthat poses a degree of hazard greater than that normal to thegeneral occupancy of t

43、he building or structure, such as those101B6 MEANS OF EGRESS FOR BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES2002 Editionareas used for the storage or use of combustibles or flam-mables; toxic, noxious, or corrosive materials; or heat-producing appliances.3.3.5.1.3 Living Area. Any normally occupiable space in aresiden

44、tial occupancy, other than sleeping rooms or roomsthat are intended for combination sleeping/living, bath-rooms, toilet compartments, kitchens, closets, halls, storage orutility spaces, and similar areas.3.3.6* Area of Refuge. An area that is either (1) a story in abuilding where the building is pro

45、tected throughout by anapproved, supervised automatic sprinkler system and has notless than two accessible rooms or spaces separated from eachother by smoke-resisting partitions; or (2) a space located in apath of travel leading to a public way that is protected from theeffects of fire, either by me

46、ans of separation from other spacesin the same building or by virtue of location, thereby permit-ting a delay in egress travel from any level.3.3.7 Atmosphere.3.3.7.1 Common Atmosphere. The atmosphere that existsbetween rooms, spaces, or areas within a building that are notseparated by an approved s

47、moke barrier.3.3.7.2 Separate Atmosphere. The atmosphere that existsbetween rooms, spaces, or areas that are separated by an ap-proved smoke barrier.3.3.8 Automatic. That which provides a function without thenecessity of human intervention.3.3.9 Barrier.3.3.9.1* Smoke Barrier. A continuous membrane,

48、 or a mem-brane with discontinuities created by protected openings,where such membrane is designed and constructed to restrictthe movement of smoke.3.3.9.2* Thermal Barrier. A material that limits the averagetemperature rise of an unexposed surface to not more than120C (250F) for a specified fire ex

49、posure complying withthe standard time-temperature curve of NFPA 251, StandardMethods of Tests of Fire Endurance of Building Construction andMaterials.3.3.9.3 Fire Barrier (Wall). A wall, other than a fire wall, thathas a fire resistance rating.3.3.10* Birth Center. A facility in which low-risk births areexpected following normal, uncomplicated pregnancies, andin which professional midwifery care is provided to womenduring pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.3.3.11 Bleachers. A grandstand in which the seats are notprovided with backrests.3.3.12* Building.
