30、s Security Systems, wasprepared by the Technical Committee on Premises Security and acted on by NFPA at its JuneAssociation Technical Meeting held June 912, 2014, in Las Vegas, NV. It was issued by the Stan-dards Council on August 14, 2014, with an effective date of September 3, 2014, and supersedes

31、 allprevious editions.This edition of NFPA 731 was approved as an American National Standard on Septem-ber 3, 2014.Origin and Development of NFPA 731The 2006 edition of NFPA 731, Standard for the Installation of Electronic Premises SecuritySystems, was the first edition of this standard. The standar

32、d, which was developed in parallelwith NFPA 730, Guide forPremises Security, provided details of how to install electronic premisessecurity equipment. In addition to installation requirements, testing, inspection, and mainte-nance were addressed to provide a comprehensive document.The 2008 edition d

33、eleted several of the references to Underwriters Laboratories stan-dards. The recharging of batteries was changed from 24 hours to 48 hours, and the secondarypower supply requirements were changed from 4 hours to 24 hours. A new Chapter 9 ad-dressed transmission methods for off-premises communicatio

34、n. The standard defined severaldifferent verification methods.The 2011 edition of the document was a total rewrite of the standard. Many of the changeswere made to clarify existing requirements.The 2015 edition has been revised to update dates of many referenced publications. Therequirements for low

35、-power radio (wireless) systems have also been updated. Requirementshave been clarified relative to the provisions of the security vulnerability assessment versus therisk assessment. Chapter 10 has been updated to permit a written performance-based pro-gram for inspection, testing, and maintenance a

39、4 This standard shall not be interpreted to require a levelof premises security other than that required by the applicablecodes and standards.1.3 Application.1.3.1 Electronic Premises Security Systems. Electronic pre-mises security systems shall include one or more of the follow-ing system types:(1)

40、 Intrusion detection systems(2) Access control systems(3) Video surveillance systems(4) Asset protection systems(5) Environmental detection systems(6) Holdup and duress systems(7) Integrated systems1.3.2 Endorsement. Any reference or implied reference to aparticular type of hardware is for the purpo

41、se of clarity andshall not be interpreted as an endorsement.1.3.3 Technical Terms. The intent and meaning of the termsused in this standard shall be, unless otherwise definedherein, the same as those of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code.1.3.4 The requirements of NFPA 731 shall apply where ex-pressly

42、 specified in an agreement or where required by an au-thority having jurisdiction.1.3.5 Covered Locations.1.3.5.1 Electronic Hardware Components. This standard ap-plies to new installations of electronic premises security sys-tems or their components installed for protection of buildinginteriors, bu

43、ilding perimeters, and surrounding property.1.3.5.2 Other Hardware Components. This standard appliesto nonelectronic building and physical security componentswhere these items interface with, or become part of, an elec-tronic premises security system.1.3.5.3 Software. In this standard, software incl

44、udes the sys-tem firmware.1.3.6 Exclusions.1.3.6.1 One- and Two-Family Dwellings. Electronic premisessecurity systems installed in one- and two-family dwellings arenot covered by this standard.1.3.6.2 Information Technology Systems. The security of dataor software in information technology or comput

45、er systems isnot covered by this standard.1.3.6.3 Portable Assets. The authorized removal of portableassets is not covered by this standard.1.4 Retroactivity.1.4.1 The provisions of this standard reflect situations andthe state of the art at the time the standard was issued.1.4.2 Unless otherwise no

46、ted, it is not intended that the pro-visions of this standard be applied to facilities, equipment,structures, or installations that were existing or approved forconstruction or installation prior to the effective date of thisstandard.1.5 Equivalency.1.5.1 A device or system having materials or forms

47、 that differfrom those detailed in this standard shall be permitted to beexamined and tested according to the intent of the standardand, if found equivalent, shall be approved.1.5.2 Technical documentation shall be submitted to the au-thority having jurisdiction to demonstrate equivalency.1.6 Units

Metric units of measurement in this standard arein accordance with the modernized metric system known asthe International System of Units (SI).7314 INSTALLATION OF ELECTRONIC PREMISES SECURITY SYSTEMS2015 Edition1.6.2 Primary and Equivalent Values. If a value for a measure-

A given equivalent value might be approximate.1.6.3 Conversion Procedure.
