2、stry to reflect technology and design evolution. _ WEBBING, TEXTILE, COTTON WARP The Parachute Industry Association makes this document available for use by Industry and Government organizations that wish to apply this specification to their products. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This document covers materia

3、ls and construction of various types of cotton and cotton-nylon webbing woven on both shuttle and shuttleless looms. 1.2 Classification. The webbing shall be of the types indicated in TABLES II, III and IV as specified (see 6.2). Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), webbings woven on both shuttle a

4、nd shuttleless looms shall be permitted. 1.3 Classes. The webbing shall be furnished in the following classes, as specified (see 6.2). Class 1A - Undyed and not fungus proofed Class 1B - Undyed and fungus proofed Class 2A - Dyed and not fungus proofed Class 2B - Dyed and fungus proofed Class 3 - Res

5、in dyed and fungus proofed during dyeing 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 General. The documents listed in this section are specified in Sections 3 and 4 of this specification. For PIA-TEST METHOD-2611 and PIA- TEST METHOD-4108 the latest revision level to be used, shall be obtained from the PIA website. 2.5 Order of precedence. In the

20、 event of a conflict between the text of this document and the references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Standard. Where applica

21、ble, the webbing shall match the standard for shade and appearance and shall, unless otherwise indicated, be equal to or better than the standard with respect to all characteristics for which the standard is referenced (see 6.1). PIA-W-5665D Page 4 of 22 3.2 First article. When specified (see 6.2),

22、a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection in accordance with 4.2. 3.3 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible, provided that the material meets or exceeds th

23、e operational and maintenance requirements and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs. 3.4 Material (see 3.3). 3.4.1 Cotton yarns. The warp yarns for all types and the filling yarns for Types I, II, IIa, III, IIIa, IV, V, VI, VII, IX, XII, XIII, XVII, XVIII, XIX and XX shall be spun and

24、 twisted from carded or combed cotton. The catch-cord thread on the shuttleless loom, where applicable (see TABLE IV), shall be carded or combed peeler cotton yarn. 3.4.2 Nylon yarns. The filling yarn for Types VIII, X, XV, XVI and the catch-cord thread on the shuttleless loom, where applicable (see

25、 TABLE IV), shall be continuous filament, bright, high tenacity, light and heat resistant polyamide prepared from hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid derivatives. The melt point shall be 244C (471F) minimum. The nylon yarns shall not be bleached. 3.5 Color. The color of the webbing and its referen

26、ce standard shall be as specified by the procuring activity or order (see 6.2). Unless otherwise specified, when dyed webbing is required to be fungus proofed, Classes 2B or 3 may be used. 3.5.1 Dyeing, Classes 2A and 2B. Oil dyeing and the use of dyes and compounds containing elementary sulfur capa

27、ble of oxidation to sulfuric acid are prohibited. The dyestuff shall be chosen and applied so that the dyed and finished webbing shall contain no more labile sulfur than shown by the standard when tested as specified in 4.4.4. When a standard is not available, the dyed and finished webbing shall sho

28、w no more than a slight trace of labile sulfur, as defined in the test method specified in 4.4.4. For treated webbing, determination of sulfur content shall be made after dyeing but prior to the application of the finish. The shade of the Class 2B webbing prior to the application of the finish shall

29、 match the standard. The shade of the Class 2B webbing after finishing shall be that resulting from the base shade and the color imparted by the specified finish. 3.5.2 Dyeing, Class 3. Class 3 shall be resin dyed, and the fungus resistant treatment shall be added during the dyeing process. The dyed

30、 and finished Class 3 webbing shall match the standard for the shade specified. 3.5.3 Visual shade matching. The color of the dyed webbing for Classes 2, 2B (prior to the application of the treatment) and Class 3 shall match the standard when viewed using the AATCC Evaluation Procedure 9, Option A,

31、with sources simulating artificial daylight D75 illuminate, with color temperature of 7500 200K, with illumination of 100 20 foot candles, and shall be a good match to the standard under incandescent lamplight at 2856 200K. 3.5.4 Colorfastness, Class 2A and 2B (prior to application of the treatment)

32、. 34、the AATCC Evaluation Procedure 8, AATCC 9-Step Chromatic Transference Scale. 3.6 Identification yarns. Colored warp ends shall be woven into the webbing, as specified herein, to permanently identify the webbing by type and when shuttleless construction is utilized. The dye used in the identification

35、 yarns shall have no adverse effect on the physical properties of the fabric, and the dyed yarns shall show no bleeding or color transfer when subjected to the tests as specified in 3.6.1. 3.6.1 Colorfastness of identification yarns. The type identification and catch-cord shall show fastness as foll

36、ows: Note: 1/Rated using the AATCC Evaluation Procedure 1, Gray Scale for Color Change. 3.6.2 Type identification. The identification of type shall be as specified in TABLE I. The color of the identification yarns shall match the cable numbers of the Color Association of the United States, Inc. (THI

39、te: 1/ Any yellow shade approximating No. 80068 is acceptable. 3.6.3 Shuttleless loom identification. The webbing shall contain a black catch-cord yarn as shown in FIGURES 1, 2, and 3. The yarn shall be as outlined in TABLE IV. The nylon yarn shall be color Seal Black. The cotton yarn for the latch

40、needle edge shall be vat dyed black. The dye used for the catch-cord yarn shall have no adverse effect on the physical properties of the fabric and the dyed yarns shall show no bleeding or color transfer when subjected to the tests as specified in TABLE V. 3.7 Physical requirements. The webbing shal

41、l conform to the physical requirements specified in TABLES II, III or IV when tested as specified in 4.4.4. 3.7.1 Nonfibrous materials. The starch and protein content, including chloroform-soluble and water-soluble material, shall not exceed 7.0 percent when tested as specified in 4.4.4. The webbing

42、 for Classes 1B, 2B and 3 shall be tested prior to adding the fungus-resistant treatment and resin formulation. 3.7.2 Shrinkage. The shrinkage of the finished webbing shall not exceed 12.5 percent when tested as specified in 4.4.4. 3.7.3 Curvature. The finished webbing shall show no more lateral cur

43、vature than inch within a yard when tested as specified in 4.4.4. 3.7.4 Breaking strength. The breaking strength of any individual specimen shall be no lower than the minimum specified in TABLES II, III or IV.
