Many of these missions will require new types of spacecraft that will
4、 be created using rapid design and development techniques to reduce costs and shorten schedule times. Spacecraft and instrument designers will evaluate design options in an environment in which the engineering and design of flight and ground systems can be done concurrently. Mars Global Surveyor (MG
5、S) represents a transitional project which provided several concurrent engineering lessons:1. Collocation of a dedicated reliability engineer with the designers significantly increased communication and facilitated rapid resolution of reliability issues. Design analyses and their review were focused
6、 and efficient.2. The industrial partnership between JPL and the prime contractor was very effective. Much of the effort JPL typically spends on oversight was instead dedicated to direct partner support in many important areas (e.g., parts, gyros, structures, solar array).3. A JPL project organizati
7、on which generally mirrored that of the industrial partner improved communication, technical interchange, and reporting.4.
