2、nence. Personnel cannot be expected to be aware of the presence of dangerous high voltage. Description of Driving Event: An employee was pulling new electrical cables through a newly installed conduit from a UPS room to the electrical vault in another location. He noted several strands of copper wir
3、e on the floor and picked the aire up to dispose of it. A strand of the copper came in contact with the metal trough on the battery rack, designed to collect any fluids from the lead-acid battery cells. His wrist came in contact with the metal doorknob and formed an electrical circuit between the wi
4、re in contact with the trough and the grounded doorknob. Electrical shock was the result. There were no injuries as a result of this shock. Lesson(s) Learned: UPS areas must been identified by signage and racks must be covered. UPSs should be located in dedicated rooms to prevent the potential for e
5、xposure to personnel. Recommendation(s): Ensure appropriate warning signage at all UPS facility entrances & provide barriers over/on the racks to prevent inadvertent contact.
