Since the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) does not allow material bought to support one contract to be used to support another contract, future inventory systems will need to identify which material belongs to which specific contract. Because of FAR regulations, the Shuttle Program had set up a hardware transfer process to make sure that FAR regulations were satisfied and that material transfers did not impact Shuttle Operations
