SCOPE:1.1 Form:This specification covers a high-temperature, electrical grade, polyimideresin adhesive

6、in the form of film or paste.1.2 Application:This product has been used typically as an adhesive for bondingpolyimide-laminate-faced sandwich structures in radar-transparentassemblies, but usage is not limited to such applications. The adhesive isuseful over the temperature range -55 to +315 C (-67

7、to +600 F).1.3 Safety- Hazardous Materials:While the materials, methods, applications, and processes described orreferenced in this specification may involve the use of hazardous materials,this specification does not address the hazards which may be involved insuch use. It is the sole responsibility

8、 of the user to ensure familiaritywith the safe and proper use of any hazardous materials and to takenecessary precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of allpersonnel involved.1.3.1 CAUTION:These materials may contain an arsenic compound. Ingestion, contact withskin, and inhalation of

14、aging Requirements3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:3.1 Material:The adhesive shall be a polyimide resin supplied in sheets, in rolls offilm, or in paste form. The adhesive formulatlon shall be suitable for usein electrical applications and shall contain no metal fillers or otherinorganic additives, except

15、for anti-oxidants and thixotropic agents of notmore than 35% by weight, total, based on cured resin solids.3.1.1 Film Carrier: The carrier for film adhesive shall be MIL-Y-1140 glass(R) yarn.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3686A Page 3 of 113.1.2 Storage Life: The carrier, stored in waterproof, sealed containe

16、rs at atemperature not higher than -18 C (0 F), shall meet the requirements ofthis specification when tested at any time up to six months from date ofreceipt by purchaser.3.2 Properties of Uncured Adhesive:Shall be as follows; tests shall be performed on the product supplied and inaccordance with sp

17、ecified test methods.3.2.1 Solids Content of Paste Adhesive: Shall be within 3% of thepreproduction value, determined in accordance with 4.5.1.1.3.2.2 Volatile Content of Film Adhesive: Shall be within 30% of the(R) preproduction value, (e.g. 10% 3) determined in accordance with 4.5.1.2.3.2.3 Weight

18、 of Film Adhesive: Shall be within 10% of the preproduction value,2but weight shall not exceed 0.10 pound per square foot (0.49 kg/m )incuding the glass cloth carrier, determined in accordance with 4.5.1.3.3.3 Properties of Cured Adhesive:Shall be as specified in Table 1, determined on specimens pre

19、pared inaccordance with 4.5.2.1 and tested in accordance with specified testprocedures; specimens to be tested at room temperature shall be conditionedand tested at standard conditions in accordance with ASTM D 618.3.4 Quality:Adhesive, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality andcondit

20、ion, and free from foreign materials and from imperfectionsdetrimental to usage of adhesive.3.5 Sizes and Tolerances for Film Adhesive:Film thickness and corresponding weight in widths up to 48 inches (1.2 mm)shall be as ordered. Individual rolls shall contain not more than600 square feet (56 m2). T

21、he following tolerances shall apply:3.5.1 Thickness: lO% measured to the nearest 0.001 inch (0.025 mm).3.5.2 Width: 0.25inch (6.4 mm).4 QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISION4.1 Responsibility for Inspection:(R)The vendor of adhesive shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shallbe responsible for perfor

22、ming all required tests. Purchaser reserves theright to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary toensure that the adhesive conforms to the requirements of this specification.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3686A Page 4 of 114.2 Classification of Tests:4.2.1 Acceptance Tests: Tests for s

23、olids content of paste adhesive (3.2.1),(R) volatile content (3.2.2), and weight of film adhesive (3.2.3), and tensileshear strength of cured adhesive (Table 1, Tests 1 and 2) are acceptancetests and shall be performed on each lot.4.2.2 Preproduction Tests: Tests for all technical requirements are(R

24、) preproduction tests and shall be performed prior to or on the initialshipment of adhesive to a purchaser, when a change in ingredients and/orprocessing requires reapproval as in 4.4.2, and when purchaser deemsconfirmatory testing to be required.4.2.2.1 For direct U.S. Military procurement, substan

25、tiating test data and, when(R) requested, preproduction test material shall be submitted to thecognizant agency as directed by the procuring activity, contractingofficer, or request for procurement.4.3 Sampling and Testing:(R)4.3.1 For Acceptance Tests: Sufficient adhesive shall be taken at random,

26、after(R) warming to above the dew point, from each lot to perform all requiredtests. Tests shall be run in triplicate or as specified in Table 1. Alot shall be all adhesive produced in a single production run from thesame batches of raw materials under the same fixed conditions andpresented for vend

27、ors inspection at one time. A lot may be packaged insmall quantities and delivered under the basic lot approval provided lotidentification is maintained.4.3.2 For Preproduction Tests: As agreed upon by purchaser and vendor.(R)4.4 Approval:4.4.1 Sample adhesive shall be approved by purchaser before a

28、dhesive forproduction use is supplied, unless such approval be waived by purchaser.Results of tests on production adhesive shall be essentially equivalent tothose on the approved sample.4.4.2 Vendor shall use ingredients, manufacturing procedures, processes, andmethods of inspection on production ad

29、hesive which are essentially thesame as those used on the approved sample adhesive. If necessary to makeany change in ingredients, in type of equipment for processing, or inmanufacturing procedures, vendor shall submit for reapproval a statementof the proposed changes in ingredients and/or processin

30、g and, whenrequested, sample adhesive. Production adhesive made by the revisedprocedure shall not be shipped prior to receipt of reapproval.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3686A Page 5 of 114.5 Test Methods:4.5.1 For Uncured Adhesive:4.5.1.1 Solids Content of Paste Adhesive: Shall be determined by heatingappro

31、ximately 3 grams of as-received paste adhesive in an aluminumweighing dish in a forced draft oven at 315 C 5 (599 F 9) for15 minutes 1 and calculating the weight of solids remaining as apercentage of the initial sample weight.4.5.1.2 Volatile Content of Film Adhesive:4.5.1.2.1 Cut one 4.0-inch (102-

32、mm) square specimen from each sample and punch asmall hole in one corner. Weigh each specimen to the nearestmilligram (W1). Remove the protective film immediately prior toweighing.4.5.1.2.2 Hang each specimen in a forced-draft oven maintained at 315 C 5(599 F 9) for 15 minutes 1.4.5.1.2.3 Remove spe

33、cimen from oven, cool to room temperature in a desiccator,and reweigh to the nearest milligram (W2).4.5.1.2.4 Calculate volatile content in accordance with Equation 1.Volatile Content, % =W1- W2x 100 (Eq.W1where, W1= original weight of specimen, gramsW2=final weight of specimen, grams4.5.1.2.5 Repor

34、t individual values and the average value for all specimens.4.5.1.3 Weight of Film Adhesive: Shall be determined on specimens not less than6 inches (152 mm) square with the protective separator removedimmediately before weighing. The weight shall include the glass clothcarrier and shall be determine

35、d to the nearest milligram. Report weightin pounds per square foot (kg/m2) of individual specimens and theaverage for all specimens from each lot.4.5.2 For Cured Adhesive:4.5.2.1 Preparation of Test Panels:4.5.2.1.1 Metal Detail Parts: Tensile shear adherends shall be 0.064 inch(1.63 mm) thick AMS 4

36、037 aluminum alloy sheet, except that for tensileshear tests No. 3 and No. 4 of Table 1 tensile shear adherends shallbe 0.050 inch (1.27 mm) thick AMS 4911 titanium alloy sheet.Honeycomb core for flatwise tensile strength tests shall be AMS 43485.7-3/16-20P(5052) EX (minimum weight) or (91-4.8-0.05P

37、(5052) EX).1)SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3686A Page 6 of 114.5.2.1.2 Cleaning of metal detail specimens, priming of cleaned metal surfaces,(R) and the application of adhesive, pressure, and curing schedule shallbe in accordance with manufacturers instructions.4.5.2.2 Tensile Shear Tests: Panels for tensile

38、 shear testing and specimens cutfrom panels shall be in accordance with ASTM D 1002.4.5.2.3 Flatwise Tensile Tests: Test specimens shall be 2 inches (51 mm) squareand test procedures shall be in accordance with ASTM C 297, except thathoneycomb core shall be as specified in 4.5.2.1.1.4.5.3 Conditioni

39、ng: Environmental exposure conditions prior to testing shall bein accordance with ASTM D 618 and as shown in Table 1. Tests to determineresistance to water shall be performed within two hours of removal of thespecimens from the conditioning.4.6 Reports:The vendor of adhesive shall furnish with each

40、shipment a report showingresults of tests to determine conformance to the acceptance testrequirements and stating that the product conforms to the other technicalrequirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, lotnumber, AMS 3686A, vendors identification, date of manufacture, thic

41、kness,weight, and quantity, Instruction sheets shall also be supplied showing therecommended curing time, temperatures, and pressures for each lot.4.6.1 A material safety data sheet conforming to AMS 2825, or equivalent, shall(R) be supplied to each purchaser prior to, or concurrent with, the report

42、 ofpreproduction test results or, If preproduction testing be waived bypurchaser, concurrent with the first shipment of theadhesive forproduction use. Each request for modification of adhesive formulationshall be accompanied by a revised data sheet for the proposed formulation.4.7 Resampling and Ret

43、esting:(R)If any specimen used in the above tests fails to meet the specifiedrequirements, disposition of the adhesive may be based on the results oftesting three additional specimens for each original nonconformingspecimen. Failure of any retest specimen to meet the specified requirementsshall be c

44、ause for rejection of the adhesive represented. Results of alltests shall be reported.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS3686A Page 7 of 115. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY:5.1 Packaging and Identification:5.1.1 Film Adhesive: Shall be supplied in rolls with inside diameter not lessthan 3.0 inches (76 mm) and interleav

45、ed with a colored, nonadheringseparator-film to provide an outer wrapping with not less than 2.0 inches(51 mm) overlap. Each roll shall be packaged in a heat-sealedvapor-barrier bag. Sufficient desiccant shall be added to each bag,before sealing, to maintain the dew point below -18 “C (0 F) for thes

46、pecified storage life.5.1.2 Paste Adhesive: Shall be packaged and sealed in wide-mouth containers notlarger than 1 quart (1 L) and constructed of a material which is inert tothe contents and the storage environment of -18 C (0 F).5.1.3 Identification: Each bag and container shall be legibly marked w
