SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of drawn, round, seamless hydraulic tubing. 1.2 Application This tubing has been used typically for parts operating under high pressure, such as hydraulic systems, fuel lines, and oil lines, where high quality an

7、d high strength are required, but usage is not limited to such applications. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. The supplier may work to a subsequent revision of a

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composition Shall conform to the percentages by we

14、Solution heat treated in accordance with AMS 2772, cold worked, and naturally aged to the T3 temper. 3.2.1 Tubing shall be supplied un-ground with an as-drawn finish. 3.3 Properties Tubing shall conform to the following requirements, determined in accordance with AMS 2355 on the mill produced size.

18、s less than 10% of the nominal OD shall withstand, without cracking, flattening sideways under a load applied gradually at room temperature until the outside dimension under load is equal to eight times the nominal wall thickness. 3.3.2.1 If tubing does not pass the flattening test of 3.3.2, a secti

19、on of the tube not less than 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) in length and embracing one-third to one-half the circumference of the tube shall withstand, without cracking, bending at room temperature through an angle of 180 degrees around a diameter equal to six times the nominal wall thickness of the tubing wit

20、h axis of bend parallel to axis of tube and with inside of tube on inside of bend. 3.3.3 Flarability Tubing with a nominal OD of 0.125 inch (3.18 mm) to 0.312 inch (7.92 mm) and wall thickness up to 0.035 inch (0.89 mm), and tubing with a nominal OD of 0.313 inch (7.95 mm) to 0.375 inch (9.52 mm) an

21、d nominal wall thickness not greater than 0.049 inch (1.24 mm) shall withstand double-flaring (See 8.3.1) and tubing over 0.375 inch (9.52 mm) in nominal OD shall withstand being single-flared without formation of cracks or other visible defects by being forced axially, at room temperature, with ste

22、ady pressure over a hardened and polished tapered steel pin having a 74-degree included angle to produce a flare having a permanent expanded OD not less than shown in Table 3A or 3B. 25、 in Table 3A or 3B shall take the same percentage flare as shown for the larger of the two sizes. 3.3.4 Hydraulic Strength Each length of tubing shall withstand an internal hydrostatic pressure (P), based on Equation 1, without developing leaks and without an increase in mean diameter of more than 0

26、.2%. 27、ments before and after testing should be taken at substantially the same location. 3.4 Quality Tubing, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the tubing. 3.4.1 Detrimental imperfection

28、s include, but are not limited to, any cracks, splits, seams, inclusions, or severe cross-hatching (surface breaks) that cannot be removed by light hand-sanding, using 170 grit (90 m) or finer abrasive. 3.4.2 A polished and etched cross-section of a tube shall show no evidence of cracks, seams, or f

29、olds, when examined at 100X magnification. 3.4.3 Leak Test Each length of tubing shall be tested in accordance with either 3.4.3.1 or 3.4.3.2; the method of test shall be at the option of the vendor unless method of test is specified by purchaser. 3.4.3.1 Immersion Test A tube, immersed in water or

30、other suitable liquid while an air pressure of 250 psi (1724 KPa) is applied to the inside of the tube and held for not less than five seconds, shall show no leakage as indicated by bubbles in the immersion fluid. 31、standards in accordance with ASTM E 215 shall be used to set threshold levels. Tubes exhibiting eddy current responses equivalent to or greater than those obtained from the db holes in the reference standard are not acceptable. 3.5 Tolerances Shall conform to all applicable requirements of ANSI H35.

32、2 or ANSI H35.2M. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The vendor of tubing shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deeme

33、d necessary to ensure that the tubing conforms to specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests Composition (3.1), tensile properties (3.3.1), leak test (3.4.3), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and, except for composition, shall be performed on each lot. 4.2.2

34、Periodic Tests Flattening (3.3.2), flarability (3.3.3), and hydraulic strength (3.3.4) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be in accordance with AMS 2355 and the followin

35、g: 4.3.1 Specimens for flarability test (3.3.3) shall be full tubes or sections cut from a tube. The end of the specimen to be flared shall be cut square, with the cut end smooth and free from burrs but, except for tubes 0.375 inch (9.52 mm) and under in nominal OD, not rounded. 4.4 Reports The vend

36、or of tubing shall furnish with each shipment a report stating that the tubing conforms to the composition, tolerances, and leak testing and showing the numerical results of tests on each lot to determine conformance to the other acceptance test requirements. This report shall include the purchase o

37、rder number, inspection lot number, AMS 4086N, size, and quantity. The report shall also identify the producer, the mill product form, and the mill produced size. 4.5 Resampling and Retesting Shall be in accordance with AMS 2355. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Identification Shall be in accordance

38、with AMS 2811. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4086N Page 5 of 6_ 5.2 Packaging 5.2.1 Tubing shall be coated, prior to shipment, with a light corrosion-inhibiting oil. 5.2.2 Tubing shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pert

39、aining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the tubing to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A vendor shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS Tubing not conforming

40、 to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. 8. NOTES 8.1 A change bar (|) located in the left margin is for the convenience of the user in locating areas where technical revisions, not editorial changes, have been made to the previous issue of a

41、 specification. An (R) symbol to the left of the document title indicates a complete revision of the specification, including technical revision. Change bars and (R) are not used in original publications, nor in specifications that contain editorial changes only. 8.2 Prior to use, tubing should be c

42、leaned and chemically film treated to increase corrosion resistance. Metallic flakes or particles should not be collected by a clean black cloth drawn through the bore of a sample tube. Discoloration of the cloth, without the presence of flakes or particles, is acceptable. 8.3 Terms used in AMS are

43、clarified in ARP1917 and as follows: 8.3.1 A double flare is similar to a standard single flare except that the flare is folded back on itself such that the cut edge is inside the flare near the ID of the tube. Definitions and illustration of single flaring are shown in AS 4330; double flaring is de

44、fined and illustrated in AS 33583. 8.4 Dimensions and properties in inch/pound units and the Fahrenheit temperatures are primary; dimensions and properties in SI units and the Celsius temperatures are shown as the approximate equivalents of the primary units and are presented only for information. 8.5 Purchase documents should specify not less than the following: AMS 4086N Size of tubing desired Quantity of tubing desired Special packaging, if required.
