SCOPE: 1.

6、1 Form: This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of die forgings and hand forgings. 1.2 Application: These forgings have been used typically for parts requiring a combination of good strength and resistance to stress-corrosion cracking, but usage is not limited to such applications. 2

11、EQUIREMENTS: 3.1 Composition: Shall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined in accordance with AMS 2355. 21、gth diameter less than 0.250 inch or located in immediate proximity to an abrupt change in thickness or located so that any part of the specimen gage length is located within 1/8 inch of the trimmed flash line. 3.3.1.1.3 At Angle to Flow Lines: Specimens, machined from forgings 6 inches and under in

22、 nominal thickness at time of heat treatment or from prolongations on such forgings with axis of specimen in area of gage length varying more than 15 degrees from parallel and also more than 15 degrees from perpendicular to forging flow lines, shall have the properties shown in Table 3. Such test re

23、sults shall be identified as neither longitudinal nor transverse tensile results. 3.3.1.2 Hand Forgings: Specimens, machined from forgings having an essentially square or rectangular cross section, shall have the properties shown in Table 4 provided the as-forged thickness does not exceed 6 inches.

29、ndor. 3.3.2 Conductivity: Shall be as follows, determined in accordance with AMS 2355. 3.3.2.1 If the conductivity is 40% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard) or higher and tensile properties meet specified requirements, forgings are acceptable. 3.3.2.2 If the conductivity is 38.0 to 39.9%

30、IACS, inclusive, if tensile properties meet specified requirements, and if the tensile yield strength in the long-transverse direction does not exceed the specified minimum by more than 11.9 ksi (82 MPa), forgings are acceptable. 3.3.2.3 If the conductivity is below 40.0% IACS and the tensile yield

31、strength in the long-transverse direction exceeds the specified minimum value by more than 11.9 ksi (82 MPa), the forgings shall be given additional aging heat treatment. If, after such treatment, forgings meet the requirements of 3.3.1 and 3.3.2.1 or 3.3.2.2, the forgings are acceptable. 3.3.2.4 If

32、 the conductivity is below 38.0% IACS, the forgings are not acceptable and shall be reprocessed regardless of tensile property level. 3.3.3 Stress-Corrosion Resistance: Specimens cut from forgings shall show no evidence of stress-corrosion cracking when stressed in the short-transverse direction (pe

33、rpendicular to grain flow) to 35.0 ksi (241 MPa) for forgings 3 inches (76 mm) and under in nominal thickness and to 50% of the longitudinal (parallel to grain flow) yield strength for forgings over 3 inches (76 mm) in nominal thickness. 3.3.4 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas which contai

34、n flash line end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of re-entrant grain flow. 3.4 Quality: Forgings, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the

35、 forgings. 3.4.1 All forgings shall be subjected to ultrasonic inspection in accordance with ASTM B 594 and shall meet the following ultrasonic classes: 3.4.1.1 Die Forgings 0.50 to 4.00 Inches (127 to 101.6 mm), Inclusive, in Nominal Thickness and Weighing Not Over 300 Pounds: Class B. 3.4.1.2 Hand

36、 Forgings 1.00 to 6.00 Inches (25.4 to 152.4 mm), Inclusive, in Nominal Thickness and Weighing Not Over 600 Pounds: Class A. SAE AMS 4131D Page 7 of 9 3.4.2 Die forgings shall be etched to produce a surface suitable for visual examination of the forging surfaces for defect indications, such as seams

37、 laps, bursts, and quench cracks. Surface imperfections which can be removed and which do not reappear on re-etching and do not reduce required section thickness are acceptable. 3.4.3 All forgings shall be subjected to fluorescent penetrant inspection in accordance with ASTM E 1417. Acceptance stan

38、dards shall be as agreed upon by purchaser and vendor. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS: 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection: The vendor of forgings shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and

39、to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the forgings conform to specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests: 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests: Composition (3.1), tensile properties (3.3.1), conductivity (3.3.2), ultrasonic inspection (3.4.1), surface visual examination (3.4

40、2) and fluorescent penetrant inspection (3.4.3) are acceptance tests and, except for composition, shall be performed on each inspection lot. 4.2.2 Periodic Tests: Stress-corrosion resistance (3.3.3) and grain flow of die forgings (3.3.4) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency sele

41、cted by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser. 4.3 Sampling and Testing: Shall be in accordance with AMS 2355 and the following: 4.3.1 Ultrasonic inspection (3.4.1), and, when specified, surface imperfections (3.4.2) and fluorescent penetrant inspection (3.4.3): All forgin

42、gs. 4.4 Reports: The vendor of the product shall furnish with each shipment a report stating that the product conforms to the composition, tolerances, ultrasonic testing, fluorescent penetrant inspection and showing the numerical results of tests on each inspection lot to determine conformance to th

43、e other test requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, inspection lot number, AMS 4131D, size, and quantity. SAE AMS 4131D Page 8 of 9 4.5 Resampling and Retesting: Shall be in accordance with AMS 2355. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY: 5.1 Identification: Shall be in accordance

44、with AMS 2808. 5.2 Packaging: Forgings shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with ASTM B 660 and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the forgings to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT: A v

45、endor shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS: Forgings not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. 8. NOTES: 8.1 A change bar (|) loca

Change bars and (R) are not used in original publications, nor in specifications that contain editorial changes only. 8.2 Hardness should be as shown in 8.2.1 or 8.2.2, determined in accordance with ASTM E 10. Hardness has been used to verify that forgings have been properly processed,

48、but an “out-of-range hardness number” is not always indicative of forgings with “out-of-specification tensile strength”. Further analysis including material composition verification, heat treat process parameter review, and/or tensile property measurement on forgings with out-of-range hardness may b

49、e necessary. 8.2.1 Die Forgings and Hand Forgings 3 Inches and Under in Nominal Thickness: Not lower than 135 HB/10/500 or 140 HB/10/1000. SAE AMS 4131D Page 9 of 9 8.2.2 Die Forgings and Hand Forgings Over 3 Inches in Nominal Thickness: As agreed upon by purchaser and vendor. 8.3 Terms used in AMS are clarified in ARP1917. 8.4 Purchase documents should specify not less than the following: AMS 4131D Type of forging (die or hand)
