SCOPE1.1 FormThis specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of hand forgings

6、11 inches (280 mm) and under in nominal thickness, and of forging stock.1.2 ApplicationThese forgings have been used typically for machined structural parts subject to warpage during machining and requiring high strength and resistance to stress-corrosion cracking, but usage is not limited to such a

22、sion is acceptable if the requirements of 3.3.1.2.1 and 3.3.1.2.2 are met.3.3.1.2.1 Electrical ConductivityShall be not lower than 34.8 percent IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard) (20.2 MS/m).3.3.1.2.2 Forgings with electrical conductivity measured to be 34.8 to 36.0% IACS on tensile bar b

23、lanks at T/2 shall have SCC testing performed per 3.3.1.4 in order to verify acceptable SCC resistance. This provision is being added into the governing specification until enough data is acquired to assure that electrical conductivities within the range of 34.8 to 35.3% IACS can satisfy the require

24、ments of 3.3.1.4.3.3.1.2.3 Forgings not conforming to 3.3.1.2.1 may be given additional overaging and retested to determine conformance to 3.3.1.1, 3.3.1.2.1, and 3.3.1.2.2. 31、 heat treated as in 3.2.1, specimens taken from the heat treated coupon shall conform to the requirements of 3.3.1.1. If specimens taken from the stock after heat treatment as in 3.2.1 conform to the requirements of 3.3.1.1, the tests shall be accepted as equivalent to tests of a forged coupon.3.4 Q

32、ualityThe product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.3.4.1 When specified, forgings shall be subjected to ultrasonic inspection in accordance with ASTM B 594 and shall

33、 meet the following requirements:3.4.1.1 Forgings with nominal section thicknesses from 2.500 to 11.000 inches (60.00 to 280.00 mm), inclusive, and weights of each piece up to 600 pounds (272 kg) shall meet ultrasonic Class A.3.5 TolerancesForging stock shall conform to all applicable requirements o

34、f ANSI H35.2 or ANSI H35.2M.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of the product shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory

35、testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements.SAE AMS4456 Page 6 of 74.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsThe following requirements are acceptance tests and, except for composition, shall be performed on each inspection lot as applicable:4.2.1.1

36、Composition (3.1).4.2.1.2 Tensile properties (3.3.1.1), corrosion resistance (3.3.1.2), and, when specified, fracture toughness (3.3.1.5) and ultrasonic soundness (3.4.1) of each inspection lot of forgings.4.2.1.3 Tolerances (3.5) of forging stock.4.2.2 Periodic TestsExfoliation-corrosion resistance

37、 (3.3.1.3), and stress-corrosion resistance (3.3.1.4) and tests of forging stock to demonstrate ability to develop required properties (3.3.2) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selectedby the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.4.3 Sampling and Testing

38、Shall be in accordance with AMS2355 and the following; a lot shall be not more than 6000 pounds (2721 kg) of forgings of the same configuration or part number heat treated in the same batch-furnace load or charged into a continuous furnace consecutively during an 8-hour period.4.3.1 Stress-Corrosion

39、 ResistanceSamples, taken from a forging or a forging prolongation, shall be not less than 0.750 inch (19.05 mm) in thickness.4.3.2 For Ultrasonic Inspection, When RequiredEach forging.4.4 Reports4.4.1 The vendor of forgings shall furnish with each shipment a report stating that the composition conf

40、orms to specifiedrequirements and showing the results of tests on each inspection lot to determine conformance to the other acceptance test requirements and, when performed, to the periodic test requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, inspection lot number, AMS4456, size o

41、r part number, and quantity. This report shall also identify the forging vendor.4.4.2 The vendor of forging stock shall furnish with each shipment a report stating that the composition of the stock conforms to specified requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, inspection lo

42、t number,AMS4456, size, and quantity.4.5 Resampling and RetestingIf any specimen used in the above tests fails to meet specified requirements, disposition of the product may be based on the results of testing two additional specimens for each original nonconforming specimen. Retest specimens from fo

43、rgings shall be taken from as close as possible to the same location in the same forging or a second forging from the same lot as was the original unacceptable specimen. Failure of any retest specimen to meet specified requirements shall be cause for rejection of the product represented. Results of

PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 Identification5.1.1 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2808.5.1.2 Forging StockAs agreed upon by purchaser and vendor.5.2 PackagingThe product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with ASTM B 660 and in compliance w

45、ith applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging,and transportation of the product to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENTA vendor shall mention this specification number in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.7. REJECTIONSProduct

46、 not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection.8.
