SCOPE 1.1

6、 Form This specification covers an aluminum alloy in the form of plate 0.500 to 2.000 inch, incl (12.70 to 50.80 mm, incl) in thickness (see 8.5).1.2 ApplicationThis plate has been used typically for parts requiring strength similar to that of 7050-T7451, good resistance to stress-corrosion cracking

7、, and having 7.1% lower nominal density than that alloy, but usage is not limited to such applications.2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTSThe issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. The supplier may work to a

19、cimens shall not exhibit exfoliation corrosion at a T/10 plane greater than EB as illustrated by Figure 2 of ASTM G34,when specimens are exposed for 2 weeks according to the procedures in ASTM G85 Annex A2, using the dry-bottom MASTMAASIS Test Method. 3.3.3 Stress-Corrosion TestWhen specified, speci

20、mens from plate 0.750 inch (19.05 mm) and over in nominal thickness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM G47 shall show no evidence of stress-corrosion cracking when stressed in the short transverse direction at 50.0 ksi (345 MPa) and in the long transverse direction at 55.0 ksi (379 MPa) (see 8.

21、4).3.3.4 Fracture ToughnessWhen specified, plane strain fracture toughness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E399 and ASTM B645. The required test orientations shall be specified by the purchaser. The test specimens shall meet the following requirements:SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4458A Page 4 of 63.

22、3.4.1 For L-T and T-L test orientations use a test specimen having a width (W) of 3.0 inches (76 mm). For plate 1.000 to 1.500 inches (25.40 to 38.10 mm) in nominal thickness, the test specimen thickness (B) is full plate thickness. For plate 1.501 to 2.000 inches (38.13 to 50.80 mm) in nominal thic

23、kness, the test specimen thickness (B) shall be 1.5 inches (38 mm) and the specimen is centered at the mid-thickness (T/2).3.3.4.2 A valid KIC meeting the requirements of ASTM E399 or a KQ “usable for lot release” in accordance with ASTM B645 shall meet or exceed the values shown in Table 3A and 3B.

25、 273.3.5 Mechanical property requirements for product outside the range covered by Tables 2 and 3 shall be agreed upon between purchaser and producer.3.4 QualityPlate, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections d

26、etrimental to usage of the plate.3.4.1 When specified, each plate 0.500 inch to 2.000 inches (12.70 mm to 50.80 mm) in nominal thickness shall be ultrasonically inspected in accordance with ASTM B594 and shall meet the requirements of 3.4.1.1.3.4.1.1 Plates shall meet the requirements for ultrasonic

27、 class A for plate 0.500 to 2.000 inches (12.70 to 50.80 mm) in nominal thickness.3.5 TolerancesShall conform to all applicable requirements of ANSI H35.2 or H35.2M.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of plate shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shal

28、l be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the plate conforms to the specified requirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), tensile prop

29、erties (3.3.1), tolerances (3.5), and, when specified, fracture toughness (3.3.4), and ultrasonic soundness (3.4.1) are acceptance tests and except for composition, shall be performed on each lot.4.2.2 Periodic TestsExfoliation corrosion resistance (3.3.2) and stress-corrosion resistance (3.3.3) are

30、 periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4458A Page 5 of 64.3 Sampling and TestingShall be in accordance with AMS2355 and the following:4.3.1 Tensile specimens shall be taken with axis of s

31、pecimens parallel to each applicable grain flow direction specified in Table 2.4.3.2 When fracture toughness testing is specified, specimens shall be taken from the center width of at least one plate in each lot for each specimen orientation specified by purchaser.4.4 ReportsThe vendor of plate shal

32、l furnish with each shipment a report stating that the plate conforms to the composition, tolerances and, when specified, ultrasonic inspection and showing the numerical results of tests on each inspection lot to determine conformance to the other acceptance test requirements. This report shall incl

33、ude the purchase order number, inspection lot number(s), AMS4458A, size, and quantity. The report shall also identify the producer, the product form, and the size of the mill product.4.4.1 When the product size is outside the range covered by 1.1, the report shall contain a statement to that effect.

34、4.5 Resampling and RetestingShall be in accordance with AMS2355.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 IdentificationShall be in accordance with ASTM B666/B666M.5.2 Protective TreatmentProduct shall be protected from damage during storage and shipment by a method determined by vendor unless specified by pur

35、chaser. Examples of typical protective methods include but are not limited to interleaving with paper or oiling of the surfaces.5.3 PackagingPlate shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with ASTM B660 and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging

36、, and transportation of the plate to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery.6. ACKNOWLEDGMENTA vendor shall mention this specification number in all quotations and when acknowledging orders.7. REJECTIONSPlate not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, wil

37、l be subject to rejection.8. 40、ssed in the ST direction during SCC testing. Although the pitting appearance could be mistaken for cracking in SCC test specimens, metallographic analyses, as provided in ASTM G47, may be used to verify the absence of SCC cracking in SCC specimens. The pitting behavior has been determined to be inde
