15、1 Chemical analysis of initial ingot, bar, or rod stock before drawing is acceptable provided the processes used for drawing or rolling, annealing, and cleaning are controlled to ensure continued conformance to composition requirements.3.1.1.1 Carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen shall also be det

No variation over maximum is permitted for oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen.3.2 Melting PracticeSteel shall be multiple melted using vacuum consumable electrode practice in the remelt cycle or
18、shall be vacuum induction melted.3.3 ConditionCold drawn, bright finish, in a temper and with a surface finish that will provide proper feeding of the wire in machine welding equipment. 3.4 Fabrication3.4.1 Wire shall be formed from rod or bar descaled by a process that does not affect the compositi
19、on of the wire.3.4.2 In-process annealing, if required, between cold rolling or drawing operations, shall be performed in vacuum or in protective atmosphere to avoid surface oxidation and absorption of other extraneous elements.3.4.3 Butt welding is permissible provided both ends to be joined are al
20、loy verified using a method or methods capable of distinguishing the alloy from all other alloys processed in the facility, or the repair is made at the wire processing station. The butt weld shall not interfere with uniform, uninterrupted feeding of the wire in machine welding.3.4.4 Drawing compoun
21、ds, oxides, dirt, oil, and other foreign materials shall be removed by cleaning processes that will neither result in pitting nor cause gas absorption by the wire or deposition of substances harmful to welding operations.3.4.5 Residual elements and dissolved gases picked up during wire processing th
22、at can adversely affect the welding characteristics, the operation of the equipment or the properties of the weld metal, shall be removed.3.4.6 When Type 2 wire is specified, the copper coating shall be clean, bright, and uniform in appearance. A maximum of four discontinuities in any 36-inch (914-m
23、m) length are acceptable provided the exposed wire is clean and bright. The maximum allowable discontinuity size shall be 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) in length. The thickness of the copper coating shall not exceed 0.0005 inch (0.0127 mm) on the diameter.3.5 PropertiesWire shall conform to the following requ
24、irements:3.5.1 WeldabilityMelted wire shall flow smoothly and evenly during welding and shall produce acceptable welds. ARP1876 may be used to resolve disputes.3.5.2 Spooled WireShall conform to 3.5.2.1 and 3.5.2.2.3.5.2.1 CastWire, wound on standard 12-inch (305 mm) diameter spools, shall have impa

31、ITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of wire shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that th
32、e wire conforms to specified requirements.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS5028E Page 5 of 64.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), sizes and tolerances (3.7), and alloy verification (5.2) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable.4.2.2 Periodic Te
33、stsDetermination of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen on finished wire (3.1.1.1), determination of copper (if Type 2) on finished wire (3.1.1.2), weldability (3.5.1), cast (3.5.2.1), and helix (3.5.2.2) are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency
34、 of testing is specified by purchaser.4.3 Sampling and TestingIn accordance with AMS2370.4.4 ReportsThe vendor of wire shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the results of tests for composition of each heat and stating that the wire conforms to the other technical requirements. This repo
35、rt shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS5028E, nominal size, and quantity.4.5 Resampling and RetestingIn accordance with AMS2370.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 Wire shall be supplied either on spools in one continuous length for machine welding or in cut lengths for manu
36、al welding, as ordered. Wire on each spool or in each package of cut lengths shall be from the same heat of steel.5.2 Alloy VerificationWire from each spool or package of cut lengths shall be alloy verified by a method acceptable to purchaser and vendor. The alloy verification procedures of ARP4926
37、are recommended.5.2.1 An 8-inch (203-mm) length of wire shall be made accessible at both ends of each spool for alloy verification.5.3 IdentificationShall be by tab marking in accordance with AMS2816 unless color coding in accordance with AMS2819 or another method is specified by purchaser.5.4 Packa
38、ging and MarkingShall be by premium quality method in accordance with AMS2814 unless the standard method in accordance with AMS2813 or another method is specified by purchaser.6. ACKNOWLEDGMENTA vendor shall include this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowl
