SCOPE1.1 FormTh

6、is specification covers an aircraft-quality, corrosion and heat resistant steel in the form of bars, wire, forgings, mechanical tubing, flash welded rings, and stock for forging or flash welded rings.1.2 ApplicationThese products have been used typically for parts requiring a combination of high roo

7、m temperature tensile properties with oxidation resistance up to 1000 F (538 C) and where control of ferrite content is necessary, but usage is not limited to such applications.1.2.1 Certain design and processing procedures may cause these products to become susceptible to stress-corrosion cracking;

8、 ARP1110 recommends practices to minimize such conditions.2. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS3.1 CompositionShall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods in accordance with ASTM E 353,

19、ATIONAL AMS5609D Page 4 of 83.2.1.1 Round BarGround or turned.3.2.1.2 Bars other than rounds, over 0.500 to 2.750 inches (12.70 to 69.85 mm), inclusive, in nominal distance between parallel sides and all hexagons shall be cold finished.3.2.1.3 Bars, other than rounds and hexagons, over 2.750 inches

20、(69.85 mm) in nominal diameter or distance betweenparallel sides shall be hot finished.3.2.2 WireAnnealed and cold drawn.3.2.3 Forging and Flash Welded RingsAnnealed.3.2.3.1 Flash welded rings shall not be supplied unless specified or permitted on the purchasers part drawing. When supplied, rings sh

21、all be manufactured in accordance with AMS 7493. 3.2.4 Mechanical TubingAnnealed and cold finished.3.2.5 Stock for Forging or Flash Welded RingsAs ordered by the forging or flash welded ring manufacturer.3.3 PropertiesThe product shall conform to the following requirements; hardness and tensile test

22、ing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A 370.3.3.1 Tensile Properties and Hardness as Received3.3.1.1 Bars, Forging, Mechanical Tubing, and Flash Welded RingsHardness shall not be higher than 241 HB or equivalent (See 8.2).3.3.1.2 WireTensile strength shall not be higher than 115 ksi (793 MP

23、a) or equivalent hardness (See 8.3).3.3.2 MacrostructureVisual examination of transverse sections from bars, wire, billets, tube rounds, and stock for forging or flash welded rings,etched in hot hydrochloric acid in accordance with ASTM E 340, shall show no pipe or cracks. Porosity, segregation, inc

24、lusions, and other imperfections shall be no worse than macrostructure standards acceptable to purchaser.3.3.3 DecarburizationBars, wire, and tubing ordered ground, turned, or polished shall be free from decarburization on the ground, turned, or polished surfaces, determined microscopically at a mag

25、nification not exceeding 100X.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS5609D Page 5 of 83.3.4 Average Grain SizeShall be ASTM No. 5 or finer, determined in accordance with ASTM E 112 (See 8.4).3.3.5 Ferrite ContentShall be not more than 5%, determined in accordance with AMS 2315.3.3.6 Response to Heat TreatmentTensile

26、specimens, taken from the product, or from precursor material (for forgings See 3.3.6.1), having a minimum nominal diameter of 0.250 inches (6.35 mm), which have been heat treated in accordance with 3.3.6.2 and tested in accordance with ASTM A 370 shall meet the requirements shown in Table 2 and 3.3

27、.6.4.3.3.6.1 To test forgings, specimen may be taken from forgings, forging stock, or stock which has been forged to simulate the least reduced section of the forgings.3.3.6.2 Heat to 1700 F 10 (927 C 6), hold at heat for not less than 1 hour 0.1, and cool in still air and double temper by heating t

29、3.6.3 Long-Transverse Tensile TestsMay be used instead of longitudinal tests if suitable specimens are obtainable from the product, and shall meet the longitudinal tensile properties of Table 2.3.3.6.4 HardnessShall be 40 to 45 HRC, or equivalent (See 8.2). Product shall not be rejected on the basis

30、 of hardness if the tensile properties of 3.3.6, determined on specimens taken from the same sample as that with nonconforming hardness or from another sample with similar nonconforming hardness, are acceptable.3.3.7 Stock for Flash Welded RingsSpecimens taken from the stock after heat treatment as

31、in 3.3.6.2 shall conform to the requirements of Table 2 and 3.3.6.4.3.4 QualityThe product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.3.4.1 Steel shall be aircraft quality con

32、forming to AMS 2303 or MAM 2303.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS5609D Page 6 of 83.4.2 Bars and tubing ordered hot rolled or cold drawn, or ground, turned, or polished, shall, after removal of the standard machining allowance in accordance with AS1182, be free from seams, laps, tears, and cracks open to the gr

33、ound, turned, or polished surface.3.4.3 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas which contain flash-line end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of re-entrant grain flow.3.5 TolerancesShall be as follows:3.5.1 Bars and WireIn accordance with AMS 2241 or MA

34、M 2241.3.5.2 Mechanical TubingIn accordance with AMS 2243 or MAM 2243.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of the product shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right

35、to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), tensile properties and hardness as received (3.3.1), macrostructure (3.3.2), decarburization (3.3.3), a

36、verage grain size (3.3.4), ferrite content (3.3.5), response to heat treatment (3.3.6), and frequency-severity cleanliness rating (3.4.1) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable.4.2.2 Periodic TestsTests of forging stock (3.3.6.1) and stock for flash welded ring

37、s (3.3.7) to demonstrate ability to develop required properties, and grain flow of die forgings are periodic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.4.3 Sampling and TestingShall be as follows:4.3.1 Bars, Wire, Mechanic

38、al Tubing, Flash Welded Rings, and Stock for Forging or Flash Welded RingsIn accordance with AMS 2371.4.3.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS 2374.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS5609D Page 7 of 84.4 ReportsThe vendor of the product shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the results of tests for chemic

39、al composition, macrostructure, average grain size, and frequency-severity cleanliness rating of each heat and for hardness or tensile strength (as applicable) as received, ferrite content, and response to heat treatment of each lot, and stating that the product conforms to the other technical requi

40、rements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS 5609D, size, and quantity. If forgings are supplied, the part number and the size and melt source of stock used to make the forgings shall also be included.4.5 Resampling and RetestingShall be as follows:4.5.1 Ba

41、rs, Wire, Mechanical Tubing, Flash Welded Rings, and Stock for Forging or Flash Welded RingsIn accordance with AMS 2371.4.5.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS 2374.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 SizesExcept when exact lengths or multiples of exact lengths are ordered, straight bars, wire, and tubing w

42、ill be acceptable in mill lengths of 6 to 20 feet (1.8 to 6.1 m) but not more than 10% of any shipment shall be supplied in lengths shorter than 10 feet (3 m).5.2 IdentificationShall be as follows:5.2.1 Bars, Wire, and Mechanical TubingIn accordance with AMS 2806.5.2.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS

43、 2808.5.2.3 Flash Welded Rings and Stock for Forging or Flash Welded RingsAs agreed upon by purchaser and vendor.5.3 PackagingThe product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packagin

48、s, shafts, etc, having a wall thickness which is a substantial proportion of the outer diameter; such tubing is not normally used for the transmission of fluids and parts made from it are usually machined all over.
