6、and Reports (4.4) and is a Five Year Review and update of this specification. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers a corrosion and heat resistant steel in the form of bars, wire, forgings, mechanical tubing, flash welded rings, and stock for forging, flash welded rings, or heading. 1.2 Applic

7、ation These products have been used typically for formed parts requiring oxidation resistance up to 1000 F (538 C), but usage is not limited to such applications. Strength at the higher temperature is superior to that of the standard 12Cr type steel. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The issue of the followin

8、g documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. The supplier may work to a subsequent revision of a document unless a specific document issue is specified. When the referenced document has been cancelled and no superseding do

17、condition; hardness and tensile strength shall be determined in accordance with ASTM A 370:3.2.1 BarsAnnealed having hardness not greater than 311 HB, or equivalent (See 8.2). Bar shall not be cut from plate (Also see 4.4.2).3.2.1.1 Hexagons, regardless of size, and bars over 0.500 to 2.750 inches (

18、12.70 to 69.85 mm), inclusive, in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides shall be cold finished.3.2.1.2 Bars, other than hexagons, over 2.750 inches (69.85 mm) in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides shall be hot finished.3.2.2 WireAnnealed and cold finished h

19、aving tensile strength not higher than 155 ksi (1069 MPa) or equivalent hardness (See 8.3).3.2.3 ForgingsAnnealed having hardness not higher than 311 HB, or equivalent (See 8.2).3.2.4 Mechanical TubingAnnealed and cold finished having hardness not higher than 311 HB, or equivalent (See 8.2).3.2.5 Fl

20、ash Welded RingsAnnealed having hardness not higher than 311 HB, or equivalent (See 8.2).3.2.5.1 Flash welded rings shall not be supplied unless specified or permitted on purchasers part drawing. When supplied, rings shall be manufactured in accordance with AMS7493.3.2.6 Stock for Forging, Flash Wel

21、ded Rings, or HeadingAs ordered by the forging, flash welded ring, or heading manufacturer.3.3 PropertiesThe product shall conform to the following requirements:3.3.1 Response to Heat TreatmentUtilizing specimens as in 4.3.3, product 0.375 inch (9.52 mm) and under in nominal thickness and 0.375 inch

22、 0.010 (9.52 mm 0.25) thick specimens cut from larger product shall have hardness not lower than 45 HRC, or equivalent (See 8.2), determined in accordance with ASTM A 370, after being heated to 1750 F 10 (954 C 6), held at heat for 25 to 30 minutes, and quenched in commercial paraffin oil approximat

23、ely 100 SUS at 100 F (38 C) at room temperature.3.3.2 Average Grain SizeBars 2 inches (51 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides shall have an average grain size of ASTM No. 5 or finer, determined in accordance with ASTM E 112.3.4 QualityThe product, as received b

24、y purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS5616M Page 4 of 63.4.1 Steel shall be aircraft quality and, when specified, shall conform to AMS2303.3.4.2 Bars ordered hot r

25、olled or cold drawn, or ground, turned, or polished, shall, after removal of the standard stock removal allowance in accordance with AS1182, be free from seams, laps, tears, and cracks open to the ground, turned, or polished surface.3.4.3 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas which contain fla

26、sh-line end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of reentrant grain flow.3.5 TolerancesShall conform to all applicable requirements of the following:3.5.1 Bars and WireAMS2241.3.5.2 Mechanical TubingAMS2243.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for

27、InspectionThe vendor of the product shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirem

28、ents.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), condition (3.2), response to heat treatment (3.3.1), average grain sizes of bars 2.00 inches (51 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides (3.3.2), frequency-severity cleanliness rating when spe

29、cified (3.4.1), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable.4.2.2 Periodic TestsGrain flow of die forgings is a periodic test and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.4.3

30、Sampling and TestingShall be as follows:4.3.1 Bars, Wire, Mechanical Tubing, Flash Welded Rings, and Stock for Forging, Flash Welded Rings, or HeadingIn accordance with AMS2371.4.3.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2374.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS5616M Page 5 of 64.3.3 Samples for response to heat treatment

31、 (See 3.3.1) shall be taken midway between surface and center representing the bottom of the first ingot and the top of the last ingot obtained from semi-finished or finished product. The surface to be tested shall be ground sufficiently to remove any surface condition, scale, carburization, or deca

32、rburization that might affect readings.4.3.3.1 Alternately, the sample may be obtained from the finished lot.4.4 Reports4.4.1 The vendor of the bar, wire, forgings, mechanical tubing or flash welded rings shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the vendors name and country where the metal

33、was melted (e.g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations) and the results of tests for composition, and for response to heat treatment for each heat (or lot, See 4.3.3.1), and, when specified, frequency-severity cleanliness rating of each heat, and for average grain

34、 size of bars 2.00 inches (51 mm) and under in nominal diameter or least distance between parallel sides of each lot, and stating that the product conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS5616M, size, and quantity. If

35、 forgings are supplied, and the size and melt source of stock used to make the forgings shall also be included.4.4.2 Report the nominal metallurgically worked cross sectional size and, if involved, the cut size. (Also see 3.2.1)4.4.3 The producer of forging stock shall furnish with each shipment a r

36、eport showing the producers name and country where the metal was melted (i.e. final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations), the composition, and when specified the frequency-severity cleanliness rating of the heat, and the response to heat treatment for the heat (or lot,

This report shall include the purchase order number, heat number, AMS5616M, size and quantity.4.5 Resampling and RetestingShall be as follows:4.5.1 Bars, Wire, Mechanical Tubing, Flash Welded Rings, and Stock for Forging, Flashing Welded Rings, or HeadingIn accordance with AMS2371.4.5

38、.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2374.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 SizesExcept, when exact lengths or multiples of exact lengths are ordered, straight bars, wire, and tubing will be acceptable in mill lengths of 6 to 20 feet (1.8 to 6.1 m) but not more than 10% of any shipment shall be supplied in

41、livery.6. ACKNOWLEDGMENTA vendor shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders.7. REJECTIONSProduct not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection.8. NOTES8.1 A
