6、is specification covers a corrosion-resistant steel, consolidated by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) product from prealloyed powder, in the form of bars, wire, forgings, and forging stock.1.2 ApplicationThese products have been used typically for parts requiring minimum hardness of 58 HRC and resistanc

7、e to wear, corrosion, and oxidation, but usage is not limited to such applications.2. 19、pecimens not less than 0.375 inch (9.52 mm) thick in any dimension cut from larger product, shall have hardness not lower than 58 HRC, or equivalent (See 8.2), after being heated to 1875 F 10 (1024 C 6), held at heat for 30 minutes 3, and cooled at a rate equivalent to cooling in still air.3.3.2 Mac

20、rostructureVisual examination of transverse full cross-sections from bars, billets, and forging stock, etched in hot hydrochloric acid in accordance with ASTM E 381, shall show no imperfections such as pipe, cracks, or segregation.3.3.3 Decarburization3.3.3.1 Bars and wire ordered ground, turned, or

21、 polished shall be free from decarburization on the ground, turned, or polished surfaces.3.3.3.2 Allowable decarburization of bars, wire, and billets ordered for forging or to specified microstructural requirements shall be as agreed upon by purchaser and vendor.3.3.3.3 Decarburization of bars and w

25、cale hardness testing method, or by a traverse method using microhardness testing in accordance with ASTM E 384. The hardness method(s) shall be conducted on a hardened but untempered specimen protected during heat treatment to prevent changes in surface carbon content. Depth of decarburization, whe

26、n measured by a hardness method, is defined as the perpendicular distance from the surface to the depth under that surface below which there is no further increase in hardness. Such measurements shall be far enough away from any adjacent surface to be uninfluenced by any decarburization on the adjac

27、ent surface. In case of dispute, the depth of decarburization determined using the microhardness traverse method shall govern.3.3.3.4.1 When determining the depth of decarburization, it is permissible to disregard local areas provided the decarburization of such areas does not exceed the above limit

28、s by more than 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and the width is 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) or less.3.4 QualityThe product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.3.4.1 Bars and wire ordered

29、 hot rolled or cold drawn, or ground, turned, or polished shall, after removal of the standard machining allowance in accordance with AS1182, be free from seams, laps, tears, and cracks open to the ground, turned, or polished surface.3.4.2 Grain flow of die forgings, except in areas which contain fl

30、ash-line end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings showing no evidence of reentrant grain flow.SAE AMS5899B Page 5 of 73.5 TolerancesBars and wire shall conform to all applicable requirements of AMS2241.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of t

31、he product shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements.4.2 Classification o

32、f Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), response to heat treatment (3.3.1), macrostructure (3.3.2), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable.4.2.2 Periodic TestsDecarburization (3.3.3) and grain flow of die forgings (3.4.2) are period

33、ic tests and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.4.3 Sampling and TestingShall be as follows:4.3.1 Bars, Wire, and Forging StockIn accordance with AMS2371.4.3.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2374.4.4 ReportsThe vendor of the

34、product shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the following results of tests and relevent information:4.4.1 For each heatCompositionMacrostructure.4.4.2 For each lot of bars, wire, and forgings: Response to heat treatment.4.4.3 A statement that the product conforms to the other technical

PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 SizesExcept when exact lengths or multiples of exact lengths are ordered, straight bars and wire will be acceptable in mill lengths of 6 to 20 feet (1.8 to 6.1 m) but not more than 10% of any shipment shall be supplied i

37、n lengths shorter than 10 feet (3 m).5.2 IdentificationShall be as follows:5.2.1 Bars and WireIn accordance with AMS2806.5.2.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2808.5.2.3 Forging StockAs agreed upon by purchaser and vendor.5.3 PackagingThe product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with comme
