SCOPE1.1 FormThis specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy

6、steel in the form of bars, forgings, flash welded rings, and stock for forging or flash welded rings.1.2 ApplicationThese products have been used typically for parts, with section thickness of 0.375 inch (9.50 mm) and under at the time of heat treatment, requiring a through-hardening steel capable o

7、f developing hardness as high as 50 HRC when properlyhardened and tempered and also parts of greater thickness but requiring proportionately lower hardness, but usage is not limited to such applications. 2. 17、d finished having tensile strength not higher than 120.0 ksi (825 MPa) or equivalent hardness (See 8.2).3.2.1.2 Bars Over 0.500 Inch (12.750 mm) in Nominal Diameter or Least Distance Between Parallel SidesHot finished and annealed, unless otherwise ordered, having hardness not higher than 229 HB, or

18、 equivalent (See 8.3). Bars ordered cold finished may have hardness as high as 241 HB, or equivalent (See 8.3).3.2.1.3 Bar shall not be cut from plate (Also see 4.4.2).3.2.2 Forgings and Flash Welded RingsAs ordered.3.2.2.1 Flash welded rings shall not be supplied unless specified or permitted on pu

19、rchasers part drawing. When supplied, they shall be manufactured in accordance with AMS7496.3.2.3 Stock for Forging or Flash Welded RingsAs ordered by the forging or flash welded ring manufacturer.3.3 PropertiesThe product shall conform to the following requirements; hardness testing shall be perfor

20、med in accordance with ASTM A 370:3.3.1 MacrostructureVisual examination of transverse full cross-sections from bars, billets, and stock for forging or flash welded rings, etched in hot hydrochloric acid in accordance with ASTM E 381, shall show no pipe or cracks. Porosity, segregation, inclusions,

23、112. 3.3.3 HardenabilityShall be J5/16 (7.5 mm) = HRC 49 min and J8/16 (12 mm) = HRC 40 min, determined on the standard end-quench test specimen in accordance with ASTM A 255, except that the steel shall be normalized at 1600 F 10 (870 C 6) and the test specimen austenitized at 1550 F 10 (845 C 6).S

29、hardness testing in accordance with ASTM E 384. The microhardness method shall be conducted on a hardened but untempered specimen protected during heat treatment to prevent changes in surface carbon content. Depth of decarburization, when measured by the microhardness method, is defined as the perpe

30、ndicular distance from the surface to the depth under that surface where there is no further increase in hardness. Such measurements shall be far enough away from any adjacent surface to be uninfluenced by decarburization on the adjacent surface. In case of dispute, the depth of decarburization dete

31、rmined using the microhardness traverse method shall govern.3.3.4.4.1 When determining the depth of decarburization, it is permissible to disregard local areas provided the decarburization of such areas does not exceed the above limits by more than 0.005 inch (0.12 mm) and the width is 0.065 inch (1

32、.65 mm) or less.3.4 QualityThe product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS6322P Page 5 of 73.4.1 Steel shall be aircraft quality conforming to AMS

33、2301.3.4.2 Bars ordered hot rolled or cold drawn, or ground, turned, or polished, shall, after removal of the standard stock removal allowance in accordance with AS1182, be free from seams, laps, tears, and cracks open to the machined, ground, turned, or polished surface.3.4.3 Grain flow of die forg

34、ings, except in areas which contain flash-line end grain, shall follow the general contour of the forgings, showing no evidence of reentrant grain flow.3.5 TolerancesBars shall conform to all applicable requirements of AMS2251.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendo

35、r of the product shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements.4.2 Classificatio

36、n of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), condition (3.2), macrostructure (3.3.1), average grain size (3.3.2), hardenability (3.3.3), decarburization (3.3.4), frequency-severity cleanliness rating (3.4.1) and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot a

37、s applicable.4.2.2 Periodic TestsGrain flow of die forgings (3.4.3) is a periodic test and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser.4.3 Sampling and TestingShall be as follows:4.3.1 Bars, Flash Welded Rings, and Stock for Flash We

38、lded Rings and Forging StockIn accordance with AMS2370.4.3.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2372.SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS6322P Page 6 of 74.4 Reports4.4.1 The producer of bars, flash welded rings and forgings shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity and country where the m

39、etal was melted (i. e., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations), the results of tests for composition, macrostructure, hardenability and frequency-severity cleanliness rating of each heat and for tensile strength or hardness (as applicable) and the average grain siz

40、e of each lot, and stating that the product conforms to all other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS6322P, product form, size and quantity. If forgings are supplied, the size and melt source of stock used to make the forgings shall

41、also be included.4.4.2 Report the nominal metallurgically worked cross sectional size and the cut size, if different (See 3.2.1.3).4.4.3 The producer of stock for forging and flash welded rings shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity and country where the metal was me

42、lted (e. g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations) and the composition, macrostructure, hardenability and frequency-severity rating of each heat. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat number, AMS6322P, size and quantity.4.5 Resampling and Retes

43、tingShall be as follows:4.5.1 Bars, Flash Welded Rings, Forging Stock, and Stock for Flash Welded RingsIn accordance with AMS2370.4.5.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2372.5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY5.1 SizesExcept when exact lengths or multiples of exact lengths are ordered, straight bars will be ac

44、ceptable in mill lengths of 6 to20 feet (2 to 6 m), but not more than 10% of any shipment shall be supplied in lengths shorter than 10 feet (3 m).5.2 IdentificationShall be as follows:5.2.1 BarsIn accordance with AMS2806.5.2.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2808.5.2.3 Flash Welded Rings and Stock for
