SCOPE1.1 FormThis specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of bars, forgings, mechanical tubing, and forging stock.1.2 ApplicationThese products have been used

3、 typically for heat treated parts up to 4 inches (1102 mm) round or equivalent cross-section that require through hardening to tensile strength not lower than 180 ksi (1241 MPa) and that may require welding after heat treatment, but usage is not limited to such applications.1.2.1 Certain design and

4、processing procedures may cause these products to become susceptible to stress-corrosion cracking after heat treatment. ARP1110 recommends practices to minimize such conditions.2. 18、nished having tensile strength not higher than 130 ksi (896 MPa) or equivalent hardness (See 8.2).3.2.1.2 Bars Over 0.500 Inch (12.70 mm) in Nominal Diameter or Least Distance Between Parallel SidesHot finished and annealed, unless otherwise ordered, having hardness not higher than 248 HB, or equiva

21、ce with ASTM A 370:3.3.1 MacrostructureVisual examination of transverse full cross-sections from bars, billets, tube rounds, and forging stock, etched in hot hydrochloric acid in accordance with ASTM E 381, shall show no pipe or cracks. Porosity, segregation, inclusions, and other imperfections shal

25、d the test specimen austenitized at 1625 F 10 (885 C 6).3.3.4 Decarburization3.3.4.1 Bars and tubing ordered ground, turned, or polished shall be free from decarburization on the ground, turned, or polished surfaces. Decarburization on tubing ID shall not exceed the maximum depth specified in Table

26、4.3.3.4.2 Allowable decarburization of bars, billets, and tube rounds ordered for redrawing or forging or to specified microstructural requirements shall be as agreed upon by purchaser and vendor.3.3.4.3 Decarburization of bars to which 3.3.4.1 or 3.3.4.2 is not applicable shall be not greater than

33、allographic method or by the microhardness traverse method using microhardness testing in accordance with ASTM E 384. The microhardness method shall be conducted on a hardened but untempered specimen protected during heat treatment to prevent changes in surface carbon content. Depth of decarburizati

34、on, when measured by a microhardness method, is defined as the perpendicular distance from the surface to the depth under that surface where there is no further increase in hardness. Such measurements shall be far enough away from any adjacent surface to be uninfluenced by any decarburization on the

35、 adjacent surface. In case of dispute, the depth of decarburization determined using the microhardness traverse method shall govern.3.3.4.5.1 When determining the depth of decarburization, it is permissible to disregard local areas provided the decarburization of such areas does not exceed the above

36、 limits by more than 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and the width is 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) or less.3.4 QualityThe product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product.3.4.1 Steel shall be

37、aircraft quality conforming to AMS2301.3.4.2 Bars and tubing ordered hot rolled or cold drawn or ground, turned, or polished shall, after removal of the standard stock removal allowance in accordance with AS1182, be free from seams, laps, tears, and cracks open to the ground, turned, or polished sur

QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for InspectionThe vendor of the product shall supply all samples for vendors tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testin

40、g deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements.4.2 Classification of Tests4.2.1 Acceptance TestsComposition (3.1), condition (3.2), macrostructure (3.3.1), average grain size (3.3.2), hardenability (3.3.3), decarburization (3.3.4), frequency-severity cleanliness rat

41、ing (3.4.1), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable.4.2.2 Periodic TestsGrain flow of die forgings (3.4.3) is a periodic test and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the vendor unless frequency of testing is specified by purchaser

42、.4.3 Sampling and Testing4.3.1 Bars, Mechanical Tubing, and Forging StockIn accordance with AMS2370.4.3.2 ForgingsIn accordance with AMS2372.4.4 Reports4.4.1 The producer of bars, forgings and tubing shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity, country where the metal was

43、 melted (e. g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple meltingoperations), the results of tests for composition, macrostructure, hardenability, and frequency-severity cleanliness rating of each heat and for condition and average grain size of each lot, and stating that the product con

44、forms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS6428K, product form and size (and/or part number, if applicable), and quantity. If forgings are supplied, size and melt source of stock used to make the forgings shall also be inc

45、luded.4.4.2 Report the nominal metallurgically worked cross sectional size and the cut size, if different (Also see 3.2.1.3).4.4.3 The vendor of forging stock shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity, country where the metal was melted (e. g., final melt in the case of

46、 metal processed by multiple melting operations) and the results of tests for composition, macrostructure, hardenability, and frequency-severity cleanliness rating of each heat. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat number, AMS6428K, size and quantity4.5 Resampling and Retesting4
