SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate. 1.2 Application These products have been used typically for parts requiring high hardness or spring properties, but usage is not limit

15、h ASTM A370: 3.2.1 Sheet and Strip Cold finished, bright or atmosphere annealed, sub-critically annealed or normalized, and descaled if necessary, or hot rolled, annealed if necessary, and descaled. 3.2.2 Plate Hot rolled, annealed, sub-critically annealed or normalized if necessary, and descaled. 17、 ASTM A370: 3.3.1 Average Grain Size Shall be ASTM No. 5 or finer, determined in accordance with ASTM E112. 3.3.2 Decarburization of Each Lot Decarburization shall be evaluated by one of the methods of 3.3.2.1 or 3.3.2.2. 3.3.2.1 Metallographic Method A cross section taken perpendicular to the surfa
18、ce shall be prepared, etched, and visually examined metallographically at a magnification not to exceed 100X. Optical indications of decarburiztion shall not show a layer of complete (ferrite) or partial decarburization exceeding the limits of Table 2. 3.3.2.2 Hardness Traverse Method The total dept
19、h of decarburization shall be determined by a traverse method using microindentation hardness testing in accordance with ASTM E384, at a magnification not exceeding 100X, conducted on a hardened, but untempered specimen protected during heat treatment to prevent changes in surface carbon content. De
20、pth of decarburization is defined as the perpendicular distance from the surface to the depth under that surface where there is not further increase in hardness. Such measurements shall be far enough away from any adjacent surface to be uninfluenced by any decarburization on the adjacent surface. Ac

23、ot exceed the above limits by more than 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and the width is 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) or less. 3.3.2.4 In the case of dispute, the total depth of decarburization determined using the microindentation hardness traverse method shall govern. 3.3.3 Bending of Each Lot Product 0.749 inch (19
24、.02 mm) and under in nominal thickness shall be tested in accordance with ASTM E290 using a sample prepared nominally 0.75 inch (19.0 mm) in width with its axis of bending parallel to the direction of rolling and shall withstand without cracking when bending at room temperature through the angle and
25、 bend radius shown in Table 3. In case of dispute, the results of tests using the guided bend test of ASTM E290 shall govern. 27、ormalized at 1700 F 10 F (927 C 6 C) and the test specimen austenitized at 1550 F 10 F (843 C 6 C). 3.4 Quality The product, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product. 3.4.1 S
28、teel shall be aircraft-quality conforming to AMS2301. 3.5 Tolerances Shall be in accordance with AMS2252. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection The producer of the product shall supply all samples for producers tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all req
29、uired tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms to specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests Composition (3.1), decarburization (3.3.2), bending (3.3.3), hardenability (3
30、.3.4), frequency-severity cleanliness rating (3.4.1), and tolerances (3.5) are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable. 4.2.2 Periodic Tests Average grain size (3.3.1) is a periodic test and shall be performed at a frequency selected by the producer unless frequency
31、 of testing is specified by purchaser. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS6455L Page 5 of 6 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be in accordance with AMS2370. 4.4 Reports The producer of the product shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the producer identity, country where the metal was melted (e.g., final
32、 melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations), results of tests for composition and frequency-severity cleanliness rating of each heat and for bending of each lot, and stating that the product conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase
33、 order number, heat and lot numbers, AMS6455L, product form, size, and quantity. 4.5 Resampling and Retesting Shall be in accordance with AMS2370. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Identification Shall be in accordance with AMS2807. 5.2 Protective Treatment Product shall be protected from corrosion pr
34、ior to shipment. 5.3 Packaging The product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the product to ensure carrier acceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWL
35、EDGMENT A producer shall include this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS Product not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subject to rejection. 8. NOTES 8.1 Revision In
