6、inclusion (3.5.2.1), decarburization testing methods (3.5.4) and revises reporting (4.4). 1. SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers a premium aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate. 1.2 Application These products have been used typically for parts requiring throug

7、h-hardening to high strength and toughness levels and where such parts may require welding during fabrication, but usage is not limited to such applications. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The following publications form a part of this document to the extent specified herein. The latest issue of SAE public

8、ations shall apply. The applicable issue of other publications shall be the issue in effect on the date of the purchase order. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composition S

15、hall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods in accordance with ASTM E350, by spectrochemical methods, or by other analytical methods acceptable to purchaser. 17、 shall be multiple melted using vacuum consumable electrode practice in the remelt cycle. 3.3 Condition The product shall be supplied in the following condition; hardness shall be determined in accordance with ASTM A370. 3.3.1 Sheet and Strip Cold finished, bright or atmosphere annealed, and descale

18、d if necessary; or hot rolled, annealed, and descaled having hardness not higher than 36 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.3.2 Plate Hot rolled, annealed, and descaled having hardness not higher than 36 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.3.2.1 If allowed by the purchaser, cold rolled, annealed, and desca

19、led having hardness not higher than 36 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.3.3 When normalized and tempered product is ordered, hardness shall be not higher than 40 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.4 Heat Treatment Shall be as follows; pyrometry shall be in accordance with AMS2750: 3.4.1 Annealing Produc

20、t shall be annealed by heating to 1250 F 25 F (677 C 14 C), holding at heat for 4 hours 0.25 hour, air cooling to room temperature, reheating to 1150 F 25 F (621 C 14 C), holding at heat for 8 hours 0.25 hour, and cooling in air to room temperature. 3.4.2 Normalizing When specified by purchaser, pro

21、duct shall be normalized prior to annealing by heating to 1650 F 25 F (899 C 14 C), holding at heat for not less than 1 h/in (25 mm) of maximum thickness, but not less than 1 hour, and cooling in air to room temperature. 22、 to the following requirements; tensile testing shall be performed in accordance with ASTM A370: 3.5.1 Macrostructure of Each Heat Visual examination of full transverse cross-sections of slab, billet or suitable rerolled product, etched in hot hydrochloric acid in accordance with ASTM A604, shall sh

23、ow no pipe or cracks. Porosity, segregation, inclusions, and other imperfections shall be no worse than the macrographs of ASTM A604 shown in Table 2. 26、4). 3.5.3 Average Grain Size of Each Lot Shall be ASTM No. 5 or finer, determined in accordance with ASTM E112. 3.5.4 Decarburization of Each Lot Decarburization shall be evaluated by one of the methods of 3.5.4.1 or 3.5.4.2. 3.5.4.1 Metallographic Method A cross section taken perpendicular to the s

27、urface shall be prepared, etched, and visually examined metallographically at a magnification not to exceed 100X. Optical indications of decarburiztion shall not show a layer of complete (ferrite) or partial decarburization exceeding the limits of Table 4. 3.5.4.2 Hardness Traverse Method The total

28、depth of decarburization shall be determined by a traverse method using microindentation hardness testing in accordance with ASTM E384, at a magnification not exceeding 100X, conducted on a hardened but untempered specimen protected during heat treatment to prevent changes in surface carbon content.

29、 Depth of decarburization is defined as the perpendicular distance from the surface to the depth under that surface where there is not further increase in hardness. Such measurements shall be far enough away from any adjacent surface to be uninfluenced by any decarburization on the adjacent surface.

30、 Acceptance shall be as listed in Table 4. 32、reas does not exceed the above limits by more than 0.005 inch (0.13 mm) and the width is 0.065 inch (1.65 mm) or less. 3.5.4.4 In the case of dispute, the total depth of decarburization determined using the microindentation hardness traverse method shall govern. 3.5.5 Properties After Normalizing, H

33、ardening, Sub-Zero Cooling, and Double Tempering Heat Treatment Product shall meet the following properties after being normalized by heating to 1650 F 25 F (899 C 14 C), holding at heat for 1 h/in (25 mm) of maximum cross-section, and cooling in air to room temperature; hardened by heating to 1525

34、F 25 F (829 C 14 C), holding at heat for 1 h/in (25 mm) of maximum cross-section but not less than 1 hour, and quenching in oil or water; cooling to 100 F 10 F (73 C 6 C) within 2 hours, holding at 100 F 10 F (73 C 6 C) for not less than 2 hours, warming to room temperature; and double tempered by h

35、eating to 1035 F 15 F (557 C 8 C), holding at heat for 2 h/in (25 mm) of maximum cross-section, but not less than 2 hours, cooling to approximately 125 F (52 C), reheating to 1035 F 15 F (557 C 8 C), holding at heat for 2 h/in (25 mm) of maximum cross-section, but not less than 2 hours, and cooling

36、in air to room temperature. If the first temper cannot be performed within 2 hours of subzero treatment, snap temper the product at 350 to 450 F (177 to 232 C) for 2 h/in (25 mm) of thickness. Normalizing may be omitted if the product was supplied normalized or annealed. Heat treating equipment and

37、controls shall be in accordance with AMS2759. 3.5.5.1 Tensile Properties Shall be as shown in Table 5. 39、5 and over 1310 1310 1207 1207 5 10 45 45 3.5.5.2 Hardness Shall be 41 to 46 HRC, or equivalent (see 8.2). 3.5.5.3 Fracture Toughness When specified, the product shall be subject to fracture toughness testing. There is no recognized standard for fracture toughness testing of sheet, strip, and plate

40、under 1/2 inch thick. Method of test and acceptance standards shall be as specified by the purchaser. Procedure for thicker product shall conform to ASTM E399 or, when permitted by purchaser, ASTM E1304. Results of tests on sheet and strip over 4 inches (102 mm) wide and plate less than 1.50 inches

41、(38.1 mm) in thickness shall be reported. Plate over 1.50 inch (38.1 mm) in thickness shall have fracture toughness not less than 120 ksi (132 MPa ) in the longitudinal direction (LT) and 110 ksi (121 MPa ) in the long-transverse (TL) direction. 3.6 Quality The product, as received by purchaser, sha

42、ll be uniform in quality and condition, sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the product. 3.6.1 Steel shall be premium aircraft-quality conforming to AMS2300. 3.7 Tolerances Shall be in accordance with AMS2252. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Resp

43、onsibility for Inspection The producer of the product shall supply all samples for producers tests and shall be responsible for the performance of all required tests. Purchaser reserves the right to sample and to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the product conforms t

44、o specified requirements. 4.2 Classification of Tests All technical requirements are acceptance tests and shall be performed on each heat or lot as applicable. 4.3 Sampling and Testing Shall be in accordance with AMS2370. 4.4 Reports The producer of the product shall furnish with each shipment a rep

45、ort showing the producer identity, country where the metal was melted (e.g., final melt in the case of metal processed by multiple melting operations), results of tests for composition, macrostructure, micro-inclusion rating, and frequency-severity cleanliness rating of each heat and for average gra

46、in size, tensile properties, hardness, and, when specified, fracture toughness of each lot after normalizing, hardening, subzero cooling, and double tempering, and stating that the product conforms to the other technical requirements. This report shall include the purchase order number, heat and lot

PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Identification Shall be in accordance with AMS2807. 5.2 Protective Treatment The product shall b

48、e protected from corrosion prior to shipment. 5.3 Packaging The product shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with commercial practice and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the product to ensure carrier acceptance

49、and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A producer shall include this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7.
