5、 Aerospace, Explosion-Proof (Type I) RATIONALE Type I fusion splicers are designed for hazardous environments specifically including potentially flammable or explosive atmospheres. 1. SCOPE This detail specification defines fiber optic fusion splicers acceptable for the installation and repair of a

6、wide range of optical fibers and cables with virtually no insertion loss in hazardous environments (potentially flammable or explosive atmospheres, Type I), particularly aerospace applications. The requirements for acquiring the splicer described herein shall consist of this specification and the la

7、test issue of AS6479. 2. REFERENCES 2.1 Applicable Documents The following publications are cited in this specification in addition to those cited in AS6479. The latest issue of all SAE publications shall apply except in cases in which referring documents call out specific versions. In the event of

REQUIREMENTS In the following sections, reference is made to each detailed requirement of AS6479. If the original lanugage applies as-written in this deta

10、il specification, the reference is described as “applicable”. If there is any deviation or alternative specification, it is described in detail. 4.1 General All provisions of 4.1 of the general standard are applicable to this detail specification. 12、 shall be capable of making low-loss splices on silica fibers with core sizes from 5.8 to 200 m. However, core sizes larger than 100 m may be aligned manually, not automatically. 4.2.3 Silica Cladding Size Range The fusion splicer shall be capable of making low-loss splices on silica fibers with cla

13、dding diameters from 125 to 230 m. However, cladding diameters larger than 140 m may be aligned manually, not automatically. 4.2.4 Coating Size Range Applicable. Different fiber holders may be used to accommodate different coating sizes. 4.2.5 Non-Strippable Coating Types Applicable. 4.2.6 Primary B

17、ate and display an insertion loss estimate following every splicing cycle. It is understood that this will be inferred from indirect measurements, not obtained from a direct measurement of throughput. The accuracy of the estimate shall meet the criteria below: For splice losses 0.15 dB: not applicab
