Part 1Design Parameters4.1 MaterialsThe fuses shall have transparent non-conductive bodies capable of withstanding vehicleenvironmental conditions as set forth in this standar

Terminals shall have a suitable finish which will assurecorrosion protection and satisfactory mechanical and electrical properties.4.2 ConstructionFuse terminals shall be tightly attached to the fuse body. Fuse elements shall be clearlyvisible though the body. Typical overall dimensions are shown

In addition, the fuse may be color codedprovided that the element re

10、mains clearly visible through the non-conductive body. All color coding shall be asshown in Table 1. Preferred ampere ratings areshown in Table 1. These ratings are determined at 24 C ambient temperature using a test procedure detailedin Part 3, Sec

12、tion 6.1 of this standard.The specific ampere capacity of the fuses is a function of the particular electrical system being utilized. To aidin determining the actual capacity change, several factors should be considered by the application engineer.5.1.1 WIREFigure 2 represents the approximate capaci

15、on, it is further recommended that actual performance be verified through testing experimentally inthe vehicle.5.2 Voltage RatingFuses shall be capable of interrupting at any voltage up to and including 32 V.5.3 Maximum Voltage DropThe maximum voltage drop (in millivolts) at rated current across the

17、ntinuously for a minimum of 100 h; shallopen in not less than 0.75 s or more than 1800 s at 135% of rated current; shall open in not less than 0.15 sor more than 5 s at 200% of rated current; and shall not open in less than 0.080 s at 350% of rated current.5.4.2 CURRENT CYCLING TESTFuses shall meet

18、the requirements of Part 2, 5.4.1 after a minimum of 250 000cycles.5.4.3 TRANSIENT CURRENT CYCLINGFuses shall meet the requirements of Part 2, 5.4.1 after a minimum of 50 000cycles of transient current cycling.5.5 Vibration TestFuses shall meet the requirements of Part 2, 5.4.1 after undergoing six

19、h of vibrationconditioning.5.6 Environmental ExposureFuses shall meet the requirements of Part 2, 5.4.1 after sequential exposure todust and accelerated aging conditioning.6. Part 3Test Procedure6.1 ProcedureThe fuses, with the exceptions noted in the vibration and accelerated aging tests, shall bem

20、ounted horizontally. When testing two or more fuses in series, the fuses shall be mounted no less than 150mm apart and with no less than 600 mm of interconnecting cable, except as noted for the transient currentcycling test. All electrical test shall be made using 5 mm2copper cable and a standard te

21、st module (as shownin Figure 5) or a suitable equivalent. The interface voltage drop (VCD- VAB) of the fixture should not exceed 2mV/A. The total voltage drop (VEF) should not exceed 4mV/A. The voltage checks shall be made using a solidcopper dummy with dimensions as shown in Figure 6.SAE J1284 Revi

23、6.3.1 Resistors should be employed as load(s) to adjust the current to 70% of the fuse rating as shown in Figure 7.FIGURE 7CURRENT CYCLING WAVEFORM6.3.2 The test system voltage can be any convenient voltage up to and including 32 V (regulation 0.2 V).6.4 Transient Current Cycling Test6.4.1 Lamp bulb

24、s (EX. 1157, 194, and 168) should be employed as loads to adjust the initial peak transient currentto the percent of fuse rating as shown in Figure 8 and the initial steady-state current to 100% of the fuserating. 25、.4.2 It is acceptable if current levels decrease below initial stated values during current cycling as a result ofnormal lamp aging. Lamp bulbs that burn out must be replaced.6.5 Vibration TestSuitably mounted samples shall be subjected to a simple harmonic motion having anamplitude of 0.76 mm trave

26、l (1.52 mm total excursion). The frequency shall be varied uniformly between thelimits of 10 55 Hz. The entire range of 10 55 Hz and returning back to 10 Hz shall be traversed inapproximately 1 min. The motion shall be applied for a period of 2 h in each of three mutually perpendiculardirections (to

27、tal of 6 h). (Testing to be performed without current passing through fuse.)SAE J1284 Revised APR88-8-6.6 Environmental Exposure6.6.1 DUSTFuses shall be placed in a dust chamber, Figure 9, unmounted and lying on their side. The chambershall contain about 1 kg of coarse grade dust conforming to SAE J

28、726a. The dust shall be agitated for 3 severy 20 min by compressed air. The air shall be free of oil and moisture, at a gauge pressure of 5.6 0.10kg/cm2entering through an orifice 1.5 1 mm in diameter.
