SCOPE This SAE Recommended Practice has been established to provide direction for the design and installation of an identificati

6、on number (IN) as assigned to vehicle engines, transmissions, and transaxles. The IN is used for tracking or traceability of these components. In adhering to these recommended practices, facility of application in factory production and appearance quality are matters for manufacturer control. Refere

DEFINITIONS 3.1 ENGINE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (EIN) The engine identification number is a number, non-repetitive for a specific period of time

9、, applied to each engine produced by a manufacturer. The EIN may or may not be the same as the complete or derivative vehicle identification number. 3.2 TRANSMISSION AND TRANSAXLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (TIN) The transmission and transaxle identification number is a number, non-repetitive for a speci

10、fic period of time, applied to each transmission/transaxle produced by a manufacturer. The TIN may or may not be the same as the complete or derivative vehicle identification number. 11、G2010 Page 2 of 23.3 VIN DERIVATIVE A partial vehicle identification number containing less than seventeen characters. Minimally, the last eight characters must be included. 4. ACCESSIBILITY The identification numbers shall be placed at locations which may be observed without need for major disassem

12、bly. 5. DURABILITY 5.1 The identification numbers shall be affixed or inscribed upon a main component of the engine, transmission, or transaxle.5.2 The identification numbers shall be permanently affixed or inscribed so that they would be difficult to remove, replace, or alter without detection. 5.3

13、 Where corrodible materials in which numbers are affixed or inscribed are such that the identification numbers might become obliterated due to such corrosion, the material shall be protected to minimize loss of number legibility. 6. CHARACTER OF NUMBERS The identification numbers (IN) may consist of

14、 Arabic numerals (0-9), Roman letters (except I, O, Q) or a combination thereof and must consist of a capital, sans serif typeface. The IN shall be of sufficient length to uniquely identify the engine, transmission, or transaxle throughout its production lifetime. The digits shall be legible and hav

15、e a minimum height of 4.0 mm.7.
