、HS-,-,-SAE J592 Revised MAR2009 Page 5 of 66.4 Design Requirements 6.4.1 A sidemarker lamp may be an independent lamp or grouped, combined, or reciprocally incorporated with any other lamp or reflective device if the requirements for sidemarker lamp and the associated equipment are met. 6.4.2 If a s
、idemarker lamp is reciprocally incorporated or combined with a turn signal lamp or a stop lamp and a replaceable multiple (e.g., two filament) light source is used, the light source retention system shall be designed with an indexing feature in order to insure that the light source without such inde
、xing feature cannot be used. Removable light source retention systems (sockets) shall have an indexing feature so that they cannot be reinserted into lamp housings in random positions, unless the lamp will perform its intended function with random light source orientation. 6.5 Installation Requireme
、nts 6.5.1 As installed on the vehicle, with all vehicular obstructions considered, sidemarker lamps, shall meet photometric requirements of Figures 1 and 2. 6.5.2 Sidemarker lamps shall be mounted on the permanent structure of the vehicle not less than 380 mm above the road surface measured from the
、 center of the device at the vehicle curb weight. 6.5.3 Sidemarker lamps shall be mounted as near as practicable to the front and rear edges of the vehicles to indicate the overall length of the vehicle. 6.5.4 Intermediate yellow sidemarker lamps shall be mounted near the midpoint on vehicles 7.6 m
、or more in overall length.7. GUIDELINES 7.1 Installation Guidelines The following guidelines apply to sidemarker lamps as used on the vehicle and shall not be considered part of the requirements.7.1.1 The luminous intensity of a lighting device may vary with applied voltage. The electrical wiring in
、 the vehicle should be adequate to supply design voltage to the light source of a lighting device. 7.1.2 Performance of lighting device may deteriorate significantly as a result of dirt, grime, ice, and/or snow accumulation on its optical surfaces. Installation of a device on a vehicle should be con
、sidered to minimize the effect of these factors. 7.1.3 Where it is expected that lighting device must perform in extremely severe environments, such as in off- highway, mining, fuel haulage, or where it is expected that they will be totally immersed in water, the user should specify lamps specifical
、ly designed for such use. 7.2 Socket Design Guideline For requirements and gages to be used in socket design, refer to SAE J567.
