SCOPE 1.1 Purpose This specification covers design and performance requirements of fib
6、er optic splices for optical distribution systems in aerospace vehicles and provides a means of procurement of such devices. 1.2 Specification Approach Fiber optic cable design characteristics are uniquely related to various aerospace vehicle applications. As a result, splices are necessarily constr
7、ucted for specific cable types. Evaluation of the splice performance shall be with the cable type for which it was intended as defined in the splice detail specification (see Section 3). Typically, fiber optic splices have unique assembly instructions. Splices that are qualified to the same detail s
8、pecification must be assembled using the same procedure and tools. In the event of a conflict between the procurement specification and the detail specification which defines the unique technical requirements, the detail specification sh
21、all govern. Unless otherwise specified by contract or purchase order, product purchased to this specification will be supplied to the latest revision in effect at issuance of the contract or purchase order (see 6.3). 3.1 Material Properties (see 5.1) Materials shall be as specified in the detail spe
22、cification. When the detail specification does not specify a material, the material properties shall be in compliance with the manufacturers engineering drawing. The manufacturer shall certify that all materials are in compliance with this specification and all relevant engineering drawings. If a ch
23、ange in material occurs after initial qualification, the manufacturer is required to perform an engineering analysis to determine if requalification is necessary. An Engineering Analysis Report shall be provided to the qualifying activity at the next periodic qualification inspection (see 4.1). 3.2
24、Design and Marking Dimensions (see 5.2) Dimensions shall be as specified in the detail specification. The splice, as specified in the detail specification, or its packaging shall be marked with the part number (see 1.3) and the manufacturer symbol. The manufactuer symbol shall be listed in AIR1351.3
25、.2.1 Assembly Instruction (see 5.3) Each splice or package shall be provided with concise, clearly written instruction containing the following information in the order shown. a. Title b. Splice specification part number c. Cable specification part number(s) d. Manufacturer assembly part number e. N

28、4) 3.3.1 Insertion Loss The splice assembly shall not exceed insertion loss limits specified in the detail specification when tested in accordance with 5.4.3. 3.3.2 Change in Optical Transmittance The permanent change in optical transmittance of the splice due to exposure to mechanical and physical
29、tests shall be less than 0.5 dB when tested in accordance with 5.4.4. 3.4 Altitude Immersion (see 5.5) The splice shall be subjected to altitude immersion test in accordance with 5.5, then comply with optical performance requirements of 3.4. 3.5 Vibration/Temperature Cycle (see 5.6) The splice shall
30、 be subjected to vibration/temperature cycle test in accordance with 5.6 at the maximum and minimum operating temperature specified in the detail specification. The splice shall comply with insertion loss requirements of 3.4 continuously throughout the test and comply with the change in optical tran
31、smittance after the test (see 3.4.2). 3.6 Tensile Strength (see 5.7) The splice shall be assembled in accordance with the assembly instruction (see 3.3) and subjected to the tensile strength test (see 5.7), and will comply with the minimum tensile strength requirement specified in the detail specifi
32、cation. The splice shall comply with insertion loss requirements of 3.4 continuously throughout the test and comply with the change in optical transmittance after the test (see 3.4.2). 3.7 Heat Aging (see 5.8) The splice shall be assembled subjected to the heat aging test in accordance with 5.8, at
33、the maximum operating temperature specified in the detail specification. and will comply with the optical performance requirements of 3.4. Failure of the cable does not constitute failure of the splice. 3.8 Humidity (see 5.9) The splice shall be subjected to the humidity test in accordance with 5.9,
34、 and will comply with the optical performance requirements of 3.4. 3.9 Salt Spray (see 5.10) The salt spray test is applicable only for splices with metal piece parts. The splice shall be subjected to the salt spray testin accordance with 5.10, and will comply with the optical performance requiremen
35、ts of 3.4. 3.10 Fluid Immersion (see 5.11) The splice shall be subjected to the fluid immersion test in accordance with 5.11, and will comply with the optical performance requirements of 3.4. The splice shall be self-extinguishing within 5 seconds after removal from the flame. Flame as a result of the cable shall not
37、 be considered. 3.12 Freezing Water Immersion (Ice Crush) The splice shall be subjected to the freezing water immersion test in accordance with 5.13, and will comply with the optical performance requirements of 3.4. 3.13 Temperature Cycle (see 5.14) The splice shall be assembled in accordance with a
38、ssembly instructions (see 3.3) and subjected to temperature cycling in accordance with 5.14,and will comply with the insertion loss requirements of 3.4. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISION Qualification is required to confirm that products procured to this specification are in compliance with requirement
39、s. Qualification does not assure that the manufacturers processes are under control, only that at the time of examination the products tested met the requirement of the specification. 4.1 Responsibility for Inspection Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is resp
40、onsible for the performance of all inspection requirements specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract, purchase order, or this standard the supplier may use any facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements. The purchaser or qualifying activity has the r
41、ight to perform any of the inspections set forth in the standard where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.2 Responsibility for Compliance All items must meet all technical requirements of this product standard. The inspection s
42、et forth in this standard shall become a part of the suppliers overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the standard shall not relieve the supplier of the responsibility of assuring that all products comply with allrequirements of the contract. Samp
43、ling in quality conformance does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the purchaser to acceptance of defective material. 4.3 Test Equipment and Inspection Facilities Test and measuring equipment and inspection facilities of sufficient a
44、ccuracy, quality and quantity to permit performance of the required inspection shall be established and maintained by the supplier. The establishment and maintenance of a calibration system to control the accuracy of the measuring and test equipment shall be in accordance with ANSI/NCSL Z540 or equi
45、valent standards.4.4 Test Report The qualifying activity laboratory shall provide a certified data package for Group 2 and 6 of Table 1 to the manufacturer for inclusion in the finial test report. Qualifying activity laboratory test procedures will be provided to the supplier upon request. The suppl
46、ier shall combine the qualifying activity laboratory data with the remaining requirements specified by the qualifying activity test authorization letter into a finial report certified by an officer of the supplier. The size, type andsuppliers name and part number of the cables used to qualify the sp
47、lices shall be included in the qualification test report. All test data shall be compiled in accordance with an acceptable method, such as chapter 4 of SD-6, Results of tests performed, including the number and mode of failures, shall be reported. Where test measurements are required the value shall
