7、n H-1990 Structural steelwork SABS 1200 H : STRUCTURAL STEELWORK NOTE: The clause number(s) given at the beginning or after the heading of a clause i slare, unless otherwise stated, the number(s) of the relevant clause(s) of SABS 1200 H. START OF CONSTRUCTION GENERAL. For the purposes of this part o

8、f the code, contract administration starts with instructions to the contractor to commence work as set out in Subclause 4.1 of the Introduction. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE HANDING OVER OF THE SITE DRAWINGS (Subclause 5.1.1). The engineer should, when applicable, immediately after the award of the contrac

9、t, provide the contractor with sufficient force diagrams and data to enable him to complete shop detail drawings in good time. The contractor should, when appl icabl e, timeousl y submit shop detail drawings to the engineer for approval. CONTRACT PRICE ADJUSTMENT. The engineer and the contractor sho

10、uld reach agreement on the manner of incorporating escalation clalms in payment certificate See Subclause 2.1 of Section AH) of Part 2 and Subclause 1.2 of Section AHI of Part 3 of the code for details of how to apply the price adjustment formula. Welding techniques should be such that they prevent undue S or on an qminimize shrinkage resses.The re onnnendations regardin welding $v:n !A the zppendices to BS 5135jt or AWS 01.135 should be followed. ?See also Subclause 2.7 of Section H of Part 3 of the code.) Bolts and Nuts (Subclaus

12、e 3.6.1). Care should be taken to ensure that only bolts and nuts of the correct grades are used together. For example, Grade 8.8 bolts should not be used with Grade 4 nuts or vice versa. (The correct grade of nut in this case is Grade 8.) Corrosion Protection (Subclause 5.3.9). See Secton HC) of Pa

13、rt 5 of the code. Stresses, Temporary Bracing, etc., to Ensure Safety. During erection, the steelwork 3ould be bolted or otherwise securely fastened, to make adequate provision for all stresses that will develop during hoisting and for loads caused by erection equip- ment and its operation. Temporar

14、y bracing should be left in position until erection i S sufficiently far advanced for the bracing to be no longer required. Connections for temporary bracing and additional holes, members or cleats should be provided to facilitate handling and erection, in a manner that does not weaken the permanent

15、 structure or impair its serviceabi l i ty. Trial Assembl . Except where scheduled separately under Subclause 8.3.12 of SA rial assembly of components in the shop or on site, or both, forms a part of the contractor S responsibilities (see Subclause 8.3.1 of SABS 1200 H) to ensure efficiency In the f

Adequate temporary bracing should be introduced, wherever necessary, to accommodate stresses resulting from loads to which steelwork may be subjected during erection, such as loads imposed by stocks of material, plant and equipment, an

17、d other types of loads. As erection progresses, steelwork should be securely bolted, welded, guyed or braced. No permanent riveting, bolting or welding should be carried out until the par- ticular section of steelwork to be stiffened thereby has been properly aligned, p1 umbed and l eve1 led. Washer

18、s (Subclause 3.6). Provisiog has been made in the specification for washers thatF6mply with either SABS 1149 ) or SABS 12826) to give the erector the option of using through-hardened washers, if he so wishes, to reduce gal ling of the steelwork by the nuts. Bolting (other than Friction- ri 1 (Subcla

19、use 5.3.5). Although the tightening of Gra e o s y means _fg% o a po ger spanner is satisfactory, high tensile (Grade 8.8y b:i!sbs:kulbd always be properly tightened not only to resist fatigue but to ensure that the nuts do not vibrate loose in critical applications. 20、0 Structural steel work Standard Pod er Spanner (Subclause 5.3.5). A standard podger spanner is about mhs pointed at one end for reaming and shaped at the other to grip a nut. One of the objectives of Subclause 5.3.5.1 of SABS 1200 H is to ensure that such a tool be used without extension pieces sli

21、pped over the pointed end to increase l everage. Joints. Particular attention should be paid to adequate service bolting so that all joints are closed, and that all bolts in each group of high-strength friction-grip (HSFG) bolts are tightened to their specified tension. . All joints to be riveted sh

22、ould have enough assembly bolts to ensure eli- of gaps between p1 ies. Each rivet, when heated and ready for driving, should be knocked free of slag, scale and other deposits before being inserted into the hole, It should be a light cherry red colour, should be driven immediately, and should complet

23、ely fill the hole. The head of each rivet should, unless otherwise specified, be of standard “snap“ dimensions and the rivet should not be caulked or re-cupped or worked on below dul l red heat. Unsatisfactory rivets should be care- f ul l y removed to avoid damage to surrounding materi a1 . Joints
