6、utdoor lighting and gives recommended limits for relevant lighting parameters to contain the obtrusive effects of outdoor lighting within tolerable levels. The guidance given is primarily applicable to new installations; however, some advice is also provided on remedial measures which may be taken f
7、or existing installations. Specifically refers to the potentially adverse effects of outdoor lighting on nearby residents (e.g. of dwellings such as houses, hotels, hospitals), users of adjacent roads (e.g. vehicle drivers, pedestrians, cyclists), sightseers and transport signalling systems (e.g. ai
8、r, marine, rail), and on astronomical observations. CIE 150 is adopted on recommendation of a SANCI Working Group, which is of the opinion that it can be used in South Africa witho
10、ut any modification. It is adopted as part of the exterior lighting series SANS 10389, and is published with a dual number: SANS 10389-3/CIE 150. SANS 10389 consists of the following parts, under the general title Exterior lighting: Part 1: Artificial lighting of exterior areas for work and safety. Part 2: Exterior security lighting. Part 3: Guide on the limitation of the effects of obtrusive light from outdoor lighting installations.
