This document was approved in April 2009. This document supersedes SABS 1090:2002 (edition 2.1).

7、NOTE The term “sand“ has been replaced by “fine aggregate“. Annex A forms an integral part of this document. Annexes B, C and D are for information only. Introduction This standard contains requirements for fine aggregates that have been derived from sources that yield material of suitable character

8、istics and that, after processing (for example, washing, if necessary), can be safely used for most plasters and mortars. However, it does not cover requirements for all the properties of a fine aggregate. Some of these properties might be important, especially with regard to long-term performance,

9、and if they are not established to be satisfactory, this could result in the production of plaster or mortar of inferior quality. Authoritative technical literature should be consulted for guidance on the further investigation of a fine aggregate, to verify its suitability for use in plaster or mort

10、ar for any particular application. Such further investigation might indicate that a fine aggregate that does not comply with the requirements of this standard could nevertheless be suitable for use in plaster or mortar for specific uses. It must be emphasized, however, that a fine aggregate that has

11、 been found satisfactory either in past performance or by other means, but that does not comply with all the requirements of this standard, may not be claimed to comply with it. Fine aggregates that do not comply with all the requirements of this standard should only be used after all the consequenc

The purchaser may state a range within which the fineness modulus has to fail. 4.3 Dust content The limits for dust content given in columns 2 and 3 of table 1 may be increased to 12,5 % and 17,5 % respectively, provided that the fine aggregate complies with the requirement for a) methylene blue a

NOTE The following sequential procedure for the evaluation of a sample of fine aggregate in respect of dust and clay content is recommended: a) Determine the dust content and, if the value does not exceed the limits given in column 2 o

30、r 3 of table 1, as appropriate, accept the sample. b) If the dust content exceeds the limits given in column 2 or 3 of table 1, as appropriate, but does not exceed the increased values provided for above, conduct the methylene blue adsorption test. If the sample complies with the requirements given

31、in table 1 for this property, accept the sample. c) If the sample does not comply with the requirement for the methylene blue adsorption test, determine the clay content. If the clay content does not exceed the limit given in table 1, accept the sample. d) If the clay content exceeds the limit given

A.2 The following requirements shall be agreed upon between the supplier and the purchaser: a) when relevant, the range within which the fineness modulus is to fail (see 4.2); and b) the grading of the fine aggregate, if other than as given in table 1 (see C.2.1). 43、 (informative) Quality verification of fine aggregates for plaster or mortar other than laid down in this standard B.1 When a purchaser requires ongoing verification of the quality of fine aggregate, it is suggested that, instead of concentrating solely on evaluation of the final product, he also di

Amdt 1 B.2 If no information about the implementation of quality control or testing during manufacture is available to help in the assess

46、nciples should be agreed upon between the supplier and purchaser. It must be noted that: a) such a sampling plan applies to ready-for-use fine aggregates sampled in accordance with an agreed procedure only, and b) if, in terms of the sampling plan, the applicable procedures given in SANS 195 are to

47、be used, a clear statement should be made as to the objective of the sampling as described in the method. SANS 1090:2009 Edition 2.2 9 Annex C (informative) Notes on tests and guidance on the use of fine aggregate for plaster and mortar C.1 General C.1.1 The notes in this annex are of very general n

C.1.2 Any information given in publications ref

49、erred to in C.1.1 in the form of guidance or recommendations should not be construed as being alternative or optional requirements to those specified in the standard but as additional information to assist in the assessment of fine aggregate for its suitability for use in plaster and mortar, especially for special applications. Tests for the determination of properties additional to those covered in this standard should, wherever possible, be conducted in accordance with SANS standard methods.
