、e. 5 Sampling and compliance with the specification NOTE This section applies to the sampling for inspection and testing before acceptance or rejection of single lots (consignments) in cases where no information about the implementation of quality control or testing during manufacture is available t

、o help in assessing the quality of the lot. It is also used as the procedure for adjudicating in cases of dispute. 5.1 Sampling The following sampling procedure shall be applied in determining whether a lot complies with the requirements of the specification. The samples so drawn shall be deemed to

、represent the lot for the respective properties. 5.1.1 Sample for the storage stability test After inspecting the lot for compliance with section 4, draw from it at random enough containers to provide at least 4 L of sealing compound. 5.1.2 Sample for the remaining tests From the lot draw at random

、enough containers to provide at least 4 L of sealing compound. 5.2 Compliance with the specification The lot shall be deemed to comply with the requirements of the specification if, on inspection and testing, the samples taken in accordance with 5.1 are found to comply with all the relevant requirem

、ents of the specification. 6 Methods of test 6.1 Preparation of test samples and test substrates 6.1.1 Conditioning of test samples Unless otherwise stated in the method, condition the test samples taken in accordance with 5.1.2 under standard test conditions (see 2.1) for at least 16 h before drawi

、ng samples for the tests given in 6.4 to 6.11. 6.1.2 Test substrates When so specified by the manufacturer (see 4.2(e), prime substrate material with the recommended primer and in the manner specified. NOTE Include in the test report the use of such primers, and the manufacturers designation of the

、primers. SANS 1305:2009 Edition 1.2 7 6.2 Condition of the sealing compound in the container 6.2.1 Cartridges Extrude enough sealing compound from the cartridge(s) taken in accordance with 5.1.2 to examine the condition for compliance with the requirements of 3.4. 6.2.2 Containers other than cartrid

、ges Examine the sealing compound in the container(s) taken in accordance with 5.1.2 for compliance with the requirements of 3.4. 6.3 Storage stability Store the container(s) taken in accordance with 5.1.1 for six months from date of purchase at 35 C and at the end of the period examine and test the

、sealing compound for compliance with the requirements of 3.5. 6.4 Colour Take sufficient sealing compound and spread it evenly to form a film of thickness at least 1 mm over an area of at least 70 mm 75 mm on a suitable steel panel. Allow the sealing compound to cure under standard test conditions f

、or 7 d. At the end of this period, compare the colour of the sealing compound with the reference colour by viewing it and the reference colour (see 3.6) placed adjacent to it, under identical conditions of diffused southern daylight or its equivalent. Ensure that the light falls vertically on the pa

、nel and reference colour and that the viewing is done at 45 from the normal, or vice versa. 6.5 Working properties and extrusibility 6.5.1 Equipment a) Caulking gun. An air-powered caulking gun that has a tapered nozzle with an orifice of nominal internal diameter 6 mm or that can take a cartridge w

、ith a plastics nozzle. b) Compressed air supply. Clean dry air at a constant 345 kPa 15 kPa. c) A balance, sensitive to 0,5 g or better. d) Filter paper. e) A stop-watch with a second hand. 6.5.2 Test Specimen Unless the containers in which the sealing compound is supplied are cartridges, fill a sui

、table cartridge with the compound. 6.5.3 Procedure a) Condition the caulking gun and cartridge of sealing compound under standard test conditions for at least 16 h. If a cartridge with a plastics nozzle is used, so cut the nozzle that the internal diameter of its orifice is 6 mm. Place the cartridge

、 in the gun and connect the gun to the compressed air supply. SANS 1305:2009 Edition 1.2 8 b) Apply the sealing compound to suitable horizontal and vertical joints and note whether it flows freely and works satisfactorily. c) Place a filter paper on the pan of the balance, extrude sealing compound o

、n to the filter paper for exactly 60 s under standard test conditions, and record the mass of sealing compound extruded. 6.6 Loss of mass, cracking, and chalking on heat aging Use the relevant method described in SANS 110 (ignoring the reference to the preparation of a two-component sealing compound

、) but a) heat age for 14 d instead of 7 d, and b) at the end of the test examine the sealing compound in each specimen for the formation of cracking and chalking only. 6.7 Skin-forming time 6.7.1 Equipment An expendable aluminium dish of nominal diameter 45 mm and of nominal depth 6 mm. 6.7.2 Test s

、pecimen Condition the sealant in its closed container at a temperature of 25 C 2 C and a relative humidity of 50 % 4 % for 24 h. 6.7.3 Procedure Full the dish with sealant and expose it to a temperature of 25 C 2 C and a relative humidity of 50 % 4 %. After 5 min and again after 6 h, gently draw the

、 surface of the sealant with a sharp probe or needle. 6.7.4 Report Report whether a skin has been formed after 5 min and after 6 h. Amdt 1 6.8 Rheological properties Use the equipment and procedure described in the relevant method given for type 2 compound in SANS 110, but a) when degreasing the cha

、nnels, disregard the phrase “until water-break free“; and b) test the sealing compound, as conditioned (see 6.1.1), for 4 h instead of 24 h. 6.9 Hardness Use the relevant method given in SANS 110, but a) test the sealing compound as conditioned (see 6.1.1) and allow to cure for 21 d (instead of 14 d

、) before determining the initial hardness, and SANS 1305:2009 Edition 1.2 9 b) in the determination of the hardness after heat aging, after curing the specimens under standard test conditions for 7 d, heat age them in the oven for 14 d (instead of 21 d). 6.10 Adhesion in peel Use the relevant method given in SANS 110 but a) test the sealing compound as conditioned (see 6.1.1), b) omit the test with mortar blocks in the case of type 2, and c) in the preparation of the test specimens, instead of the 2 d and 5 d curing periods, use periods of 7 d and 14 d
