11、rd specifies the characteristics of electric room heaters of the portable and fixed types. 1.2 All electrical appliances have to comply with the relevant safety requirements. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions that, through reference in this text, constitute provisions

Amdt 3 3 Definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following definitions apply: 3.1 acceptable accept

17、e ambient atmosphere by radiation or convection or both 3.4 fixed room heater electric room heater that is designed for use in a fixed position and is intended for permanent connection to a supply circuit 3.5 frame structure of the appliance (including any exposed metal that is not intended to have

20、ents 4.1 Operating instructions Any necessary instructions shall be indicated either on the room heater itself or in a leaflet supplied with the room heater. 4.2 Materials The materials used in the construction of the heater shall be heat resistant or shall have been treated to give protection again
21、st damage and corrosion due to heat under normal operating conditions, and shall not emit any obnoxious odour or vapour when the heater is in use. 4.3 Workmanship The quality of the work undertaken on a room heater shall be such as to be acceptable. SANS 160:2008 Edition 3.5 5 4.4 Finish External su
22、rfaces shall be finished in an acceptable manner. The finish used shall be heat resistant and unaffected by the variations in temperature that occur under normal operating conditions. Amdt 3 4.5 Connectors Appliance couplers shall comply with the requirements of SANS 60320-1. 4.6 Flexible cords A ro
23、om heater shall have an acceptable flexible cord that complies with the relevant requirements of SANS 1574-4. When determined in accordance with clause 7 of SANS 60675, the length of the cord shall be as stated by the manufacturer (see clause 7). Amdt 3; amdt 5 4.7 Electric motors A room heater that
24、 is combined with a motor-driven fan shall have an acceptable electrical motor that complies with the relevant requirements of SANS 1804-4. Amdt 2 4.8 Remote control devices If intended to be adjusted for tilt or if fitted with adjustable louvres, room heaters designed for mounting more than 2,5 m a
25、bove floor level shall be provided with non-conducting operating rods or cords. 4.9 Dimensions When determined in accordance with clause 7 of SANS 60675, the overall dimensions of the room heater (length, height and depth) shall be as stated by the manufacturer (see clause 7). 4.10 Mass When determi
26、ned in accordance with clause 7 of SANS 60675, the mass of the room heater shall be as stated by the manufacturer (see clause 7). 4.11 Switches Any manually operated switch that is mounted on an air heater for the purpose of controlling any air circulating device, heating unit or part of a heating u
27、nit shall comply with the requirements for appliance switches of SANS 61058-1 and shall have current and voltage ratings at least equal to those of the circuit which it controls. Amdt 3 If a portable room heater is designed for connection to a flexible cord by means of a reversible apparatus connect
28、or, the switch shall be of the double-pole type unless one section of the heating unit is independent of the control of such a switch. If it is connected by means of terminals or a non-reversible apparatus connector, the switch may be of the single-pole type and shall be so connected as to control t
29、he live or phase conductor of the circuit. In the case of fixed room heaters that have exposed heating elements, the switch shall be of the double-pole type. SANS 160:2008 Edition 3.5 6 5 Performance requirements 5.1 Rated voltage A room heater shall have a rated voltage of 230 V or a rated voltage
30、range that includes 230 V. 5.2 Endurance When tested in accordance with 6.3, a room heater shall show no sign of electrical or mechanical failure. 5.3 Control devices When tested in accordance with 6.4, control devices shall show no sign of electrical or mechanical failure and no undue burning or pi
31、tting of their contacts. 5.4 Mechanical strength 5.4.1 When tested in accordance with 6.5.1, a portable room heater shall show no sign of unacceptable damage, and component parts shall not have worked loose. 5.4.2 When tested in accordance with 6.5.2, the guard of a room heater shall not be deflecte
32、d from its normal position by more than 2,5 mm. 5.5 Corrosion resistance When tested in accordance with 6.6, ferrous components that are required to be protected against corrosion shall show no sign of corrosion. 5.6 Warming-up time When determined in accordance with clause 10 of SANS 60675, the war
33、ming-up time shall not exceed 15 min. This requirement does not apply to visibly glowing radiant heaters or to forced-draught convection heaters. 5.7 Stability of room temperature When tested in accordance with clause 11 of SANS 60675, a room heater that has a built-in ambient-temperature thermostat
34、 shall, within the limits of its rating, ensure acceptable stability of the ambient temperature, in spite of the variation of the heating needs inside the room. 6 Inspection and methods of test 6.1 Inspection Inspect the room heaters for compliance with those requirements of clauses 4 and 5 for whic
35、h tests to assess compliance are not given in 6.3 to 6.6 (inclusive). 6.2 Sequence and conditions of test Carry out the tests at an ambient temperature of 23 C 2 C and in the order in which they are given. SANS 160:2008 Edition 3.5 7 6.3 Endurance test Operate the room heater continuously in still a
36、ir under normal operating conditions at the maximum rated voltage for 400 cycles, each cycle consisting of 5,5 h of heating followed by 30 min of cooling. Operate room heaters provided with automatic heat control at their maximum setting. At the conclusion of the test, examine the room heater for co
37、mpliance with 5.2. 6.4 Test on control devices Operate control devices for 300 cycles of making and breaking the maximum rated current at the maximum rated voltage, at a rate not exceeding 10 cycles per minute. In the case of motor control devices, take the sum of the stalled-motor current and the c
38、urrent of the heating units as the rated current unless the motor and heating unit(s) are independently controlled. Check for compliance with 5.3. 6.5 Mechanical strength tests 6.5.1 Portable room heaters Place the room heater in its normal operating position on a flat wooden surface that is hinged
39、along one side to a wooden base and has a batten of height 25 mm, on its upper surface, parallel to the hinge. Slowly raise the surface until the heater topples over. Repeat this three times for each of three different positions of the heater. Examine the heater for compliance with 5.4.1. 6.5.2 Guar
40、ds Operate the room heater (complete with guard) for a period of at least 30 min at a voltage 10 % higher than the maximum rated voltage. Allow the heater to cool to room temperature. So support the heater that the central section of the guard is horizontal, and gradually apply, midway between the f
41、ixing points of the guard, a load that consists of a 2,5 kg masspiece with a flat circular base of area 2 000 mm2. Measure the deflection of the guard. Examine the guard for compliance with 5.4.2. 6.6 Corrosion-resistance test Immerse the component under test for 10 min in carbon tetrachloride, to r
42、emove all grease. Remove the component from the carbon tetrachloride and allow it to dry. Immerse it for 10 min in a 10 % aqueous solution of ammonium chloride maintained at a temperature of 20 C 5 C. Remove the component from the solution and shake off the drops, but do not allow it to dry. Place i
43、t for 10 min in a cabinet that contains air saturated with moisture at a temperature of 20 C 5 C. Remove the component from the cabinet, dry it for 10 min in an oven maintained at a temperature of 100 C 5 C, and then inspect the surfaces of the component for compliance with 5.5. 7 Marking In additio
44、n to the markings required in terms of SANS 60335-2-30, every electric room heater shall be legibly and indelibly marked with the manufacturers name, trade name, or registered trade mark. The dimensions, the mass, and the cord length of the appliance shall be given in an instruction leaflet. SANS 16
45、0:2008 Edition 3.5 8 Annex A (normative) Notes to purchasers The following requirements shall be agreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer: a) the type of appliance; b) the rated voltage or the rated voltage range; and c) the rated wattage. Annex B (informative) Quality verification of
46、room heaters When a purchaser requires ongoing verification of the quality of room heaters, it is suggested that, instead of concentrating solely on the evaluation of the final product, he also direct his attention to the manufacturers quality system. In this connection it should be noted that SANS 9001 covers the provision of an integrated quality system.
