9、ards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. All standards are subject to revision and, since any reference to a standard is deemed to be a reference to the latest edition of that standard, parties to agreements based on this standard are enc

SANS 1891-1:2008 Edition 1.1 4 3 Definitions 3.1 nominal subject to the tolerances normal to good manufacturing practice 3.2 performance requirement specified value by which a garment can be judged to determine whether it will prove generally acceptable during normal use 4 Componen

14、t materials 4.1 Outer material The outer material shall comply with the requirements of item 0, and items 5 and 10 (as relevant) of SANS 1261-3. 4.2 Interlining A fusible woven, non-woven or weft inserted knitted interlining that is suitable for use in garments that are to be washed, and of a mass p

15、er unit area such that the interlining is suitable for use in the particular garment. 4.3 Buttons Fully impregnated, dope-dyed plastics buttons. 4.4 Press studs Press studs shall be of the male and female type and made of an intrinsically corrosion resistant metal. 4.5 Slide fasteners Shall comply w

16、ith the relevant requirements of SANS 1822. 4.6 Touch and close fasteners Shall comply with the relevant requirements of SANS 1823. 4.7 Collar stiffeners Plastics stiffeners of nominal dimensions 60 mm 6 mm 0,5 mm. 4.8 Tape A cotton tape that complies with the relevant requirements of SANS 877, or a

17、 suitable polyester tape. 4.9 Drawcords Drawcords of round lacing with a nominal diameter of 4 mm. The ends shall be sealed to prevent fraying. SANS 1891-1:2008 Edition 1.1 5 4.10 Drawcord cones Plastic drawcord cones with a hole of suitable size to fit the drawcord. 4.11 Eyelets Eyelets shall be of

18、 the shirt buttonhole type or made of an intrinsically corrosion resistant metal. 4.12 Elastic The elastic shall comply with the relevant requirements of SANS 142. 4.13 Embroidery thread A 100 % viscose machine embroidery thread. 4.14 Sewing threads The threads shall comply with the relevant require

19、ments of SANS 1362. 4.15 Other metal trimmings Any other metal trimmings shall be made of intrinsically corrosion resistant metal. 5 Workmanship The shirts shall be cut and made with first-class workmanship throughout, and shall be free from defects that affect their appearance or may affect their s

20、erviceability (or both), and free from marks, spots or stains incurred in the making up. The shirts shall be of uniformed make, colour or finish. 6 Stitches, seams and stitchings 6.1 General All seams shall be smooth and all stitching uniform. Seams and stitching shall be free from twists pleats and

21、 puckers, and shall be sufficiently extensible to obviate seam cracking and undue shrinkage in use. All ends of sewing that are not secured in seams or in other sewing shall be adequately back-tacked. All ends of sewing shall have been trimmed and loose threads removed. 6.2 Stitches The stitches sha

22、ll be as follows: a) sleeve, sleeve insertion and side seams: safety stitch; b) overlocking: three-thread overlocking stitch; and c) all other sewing: single-needle lock stitch. 23、ype SSa of width at least 5 mm; b) attaching pockets to shirt: seam type LSd; c) attaching pocket flaps to shirt: seam type LSbl; and d) edges of pocket flaps, shoulder straps and collar: seam type SSe. 6.4 Stitchings The stitchings shall be as follows: a) turned in hems: stitching type EFa or stitc

24、hing type EFb; and b) all raw edges: stitching type EFb. SANS 1891-1:2008 Edition 1.1 7 6.5 Number of stitches The number of stitches shall be as follows: a) seams and top stitching: 40 per 10 cm 4 per 10 cm; b) overlocking: 32 per cm 2 per cm; c) bartacks: 20 per cm 2 per cm; d) buttonholes: 12 per

25、 cm 1 per cm; and e) buttons: 12 per button 1 per button. 7 Care-labelling Each shirt shall have a woven or printed label that is permanently secured and that provides (in accordance with SANS 10011) correct and appropriate care instructions. Printed labels shall comply with the requirements of SANS 1309. All care-labels and their markings shall be such that they outlast the garment. 8 Marking Each shirt shall be marked with the size designation. Standards South Africa
