13、ft blank SANS 1910:2009 Edition 1.2 3 Portable refillable fire extinguishers 1 Scope 1.1 This standard covers the principal requirements for the safety, reliability and performance of portable, stored pressure, refillable type fire extinguishers suitable for use on fires of classes A, B and C. 1.2 T
14、his standard covers the requirements for water type, foam type and dry chemical powder type fire extinguishers. 1.3 It does not cover the requirements for CO2fire extinguishers. For the requirements of this fire extinguisher, refer to SANS 1567. 1.4 It does not cover Halon type extinguishers. (South
15、 Africa has agreed to abide by the Montreal Agreement on the use of CFC products. However, maintenance on this type of extinguisher is still carried out in terms of SANS 1475-1.) 27、extinguish 3.11 test pressure pressure for which the cylinder has been designed 3.12 working pressure normal working pressure for a cylinder in service 4 General requirements 4.1 Test fire rating, capacity and mass 4.1.1 Test fire rating (for class A and class B fires only) An extinguisher shall be
28、rated by the manufacturer for its performance in extinguishing a test fire as indicated on the extinguisher, as follows: a) water type extinguishing medium (see 7.2.1.2.1(a); b) foam type extinguishing medium (see 7.2.1.2.2(a); and c) dry chemical powder type extinguishing medium (see 7.2.1.2.3(a).
29、The rating shall be one of the test ratings given in SANS 6172, or of both ratings (see annex D). Powder grading shall be in accordance with the requirements of SANS 1522. 4.1.2 Capacity An extinguisher shall have a capacity in the range 1,0 kg to 5,0 kg (in increments of 0,5 kg) or in the range 5 k
30、g to 12 kg (in increments of 1,0 kg). The mass of the charge shall be equal to that marked on the extinguisher, subject to the tolerance given in table 1. 31、(0 5) % 3 kg 2 % 4.1.3 Mass The total mass of a fully equipped (including accessories), fully charged extinguisher (excluding the mounting bracket) shall be equal to that marked on the extinguisher (see 7.2.1.3(c), subject to a tolerance of 5,0 %, but not in excess of 23 kg. 4.2 Components of a fire
32、 extinguisher 4.2.1 An extinguisher shall consist of a steel cylinder complying with SANS 1739, complete with at least the following components: Amdt 1 a) an operating head secured onto the neck ring and carrying the actuating mechanism and control valve, or having these attached to the end of the d
33、ischarge hose; b) an internal siphon tube securely fitted in an acceptable manner; c) a discharge nozzle, mounted onto or adjacent to the operating head or, when relevant (see (d) and (e) below), onto the end of a discharge hose; d) in the case of an extinguisher of capacity 3 kg or more, a discharg
34、e hose (see (a); e) when a discharge hose is fitted, an acceptable method for anchoring the free end of the hose to the extinguisher; f) a carrying handle or other facility for using the extinguisher in an acceptable manner; g) support fittings fitted to the fire extinguisher (see 5.12) in an accept
35、able manner; h) a wall mounting bracket (see 5.13); i) a pressure indicator; and j) a pressure relief valve. 4.2.2 Any other components fitted to the extinguisher shall not compromise its performance and operation requirements as specified in clauses 5 and 6. Amdt 1 4.3 Method of operation An exting
36、uisher shall be designed for operation in the vertical position, with the actuating device at the top. It shall be actuated by means of a mechanism that opens a sealing device or valve, thereby allowing the discharge of the extinguishing medium. SANS 1910:2009 Edition 1.2 7 The discharge coming thro
37、ugh the discharge nozzle shall be controlled by a valve operated by a trigger device that allows the operator to interrupt the flow of the extinguishing medium. The method of operation shall be readily apparent and in accordance with the instructions marked on the cylinder (see 7.2.1.2.3(c). 4.4 Des
38、ign pressures 4.4.1 Working pressure The actual working pressure to which an extinguisher is pressurized for service shall be marked on the extinguisher label and shall not exceed 1 500 kPa or 2 500 kPa, as relevant. (See 7.2.1.3(b) and SANS 1739.) 4.4.2 Hydraulic pressure test (for components) When
39、 tested in accordance with 8.3, the extinguisher and all fittings subject to pressure, except pressure indicators and pressure relief devices, shall not leak or distort permanently at any pressure up to and including the hydraulic test pressure. 4.5 Charge of a fire extinguisher 4.5.1 General The ch
40、arge of an extinguisher shall consist of an effective combination of an acceptable extinguishing medium and an expellant. Tracers may be added to the expellant to facilitate leakage detection, but shall not exceed a mass fraction of 3 % of the expellant content. NOTE The details for the charging of
41、an extinguisher are very specific and an extinguisher that has not been recharged as intended by the manufacturer may be dangerous, either due to excessive pressure and risk of failure, or due to low pressure, which would render the extinguisher ineffective. 4.5.2 Water type extinguisher 4.5.2.1 Ext
42、inguishing medium The extinguishing medium shall be water and the water shall be clean and any additives shall be limited to a corrosion inhibitor, non-corrosive freezing point depressants, and non-corrosive wetting agents. Additives shall be such that, in use, they do not cause the production of to
43、xic compounds or the support of a fire. 4.5.2.2 Corrosion resistant coating A cylinder (including all repaired cylinders) shall have a light-duty or heavy-duty corrosion resistant coating, as required (see annex A). The coating shall be applied on the inside and on the outside. The type and method o
44、f application of the coating shall be such that, when a cylinder is tested in accordance with SANS 1739, there is no detachment of any part of the coating material. 4.5.3 Foam type fire extinguishers 4.5.3.1 The extinguishing medium shall be fire-fighting type foam. 4.5.3.2 A cylinder (including all
45、 repaired cylinders) shall have a light-duty or heavy-duty corrosion resistant coating, as required (see annex A). The coating shall be applied on the inside and on the outside. 46、at complies with SANS 1522. 4.5.5 Expellants Only expellants specified in table 2, or mixtures thereof, shall be used. 48、 the presence of live electric power shall, when tested in accordance with 8.13, not allow a current of more than 0,5 mA to pass. NOTE Water and water-based product fire extinguishers are not recommended for use on electrical fires, except in special circumstances where special training has been giv
49、en to the operator(s) in the use of such equipment. 4.7 Production tests 4.7.1 Manufacturers leakage test Every extinguisher shall, after having been charged and before delivery, have been subjected by the manufacturer to an acceptable leakage test and shall have shown no sign of leakage. (See 8.2 for an acceptable method of test.) 4.7.2 Quality of construction An acceptable quantity of extinguishers from each production run shall be tested in accordance with the test for quality of construction described in 8.3.
