10、ed on commercial vehicles and their trailers used on the road, as given in SANS 20109. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of

12、niform provisions concerning the approval for the production of retreaded pneumatic tyres for commercial vehicles and their trailers. 3 Definitions and symbols For the purposes of this standard, the definitions and symbols given in SANS 20109 and the following apply: 3.1 belt edge looseness loosenes
13、s of the belt edges excluding a buzz out with a maximum diameter of 50 mm NOTE See 2.9 of SANS 20109. 3.2 buzz out buffed area resulting from rasping (buzzing out) of a spot injury during its preparation for repair NOTE See 2.40 of SANS 20109. 3.3 salvage casings where belt edge looseness have been
14、trimmed back, the casing is then considered salvaged SANS 1925:2008 Edition 1.1 4 4 Requirements Retreaded tyres for all vehicles shall comply with the requirements of SANS 20109, as modified in accordance with clause 5 below. 5 Modifications 5.1 Add the word “(goods)“, after the word “commercial“,
15、wherever it is used in the text, to align it with the relevant national legislation (see foreword). Amdt 1 5.2 Delete 1.5 and replace it with the following: Tyres originally produced without type approval and without an “E“, “DOT“ or “J“ mark. 5.3 Add the following new 3.2.1.2: In the case of tyres
16、that have been salvaged, the term “salvage casing dual fitment only”. This indication shall be placed on one sidewall only. 5.4 Delete 4.1.4.1, 4.1.4.3, 4.1.4.5 and 4.1.4.6. 5.5 Delete the words “in a language“ in 5.2 and replace it with “in English“. 5.6 Delete 5.4 and replace it with the following
17、: Before granting approval, the authority shall be satisfied that retreaded tyres conform to SANS 20109 and that tests prescribed in 6.5 and 6.6 have been successfully carried out on at least one sample of each retreaded tyre representative of the range of tyres produced by the retreading production
18、 unit. 5.7 Delete 6.1 and replace it with the following: Tyres shall not be accepted for first retread unless they have been type approved and bear an “E“, “DOT“, or “J“ mark. 5.8 Add the following sentence at the end of 6.3.2: The texture of the buffed tread surface shall be within the relevant nat
19、ional authoritys (see foreword) range of 3 and 4. Amdt 1 5.9 Delete 6.3.3 and replace it with the following: Where precured material is to be used, the contours of the prepared area shall meet the requirements of the new tyre manufacturer. 5.10 Add the following new 6.3.6.1: It is permissible to wor
20、k on belt edge looseness on belt 2 on large steel belted radial tyres of rim diameter 17,5 inches and above, with the exception of “Super Single“ tyres. The maximum permissible amount of looseness that may be removed is 10 mm measuring from the belt edge. Belt edge looseness is repairable over the t
21、otal circumference of the casing and on both sides of the belt. Localized looseness after the belt trim has been done may be cut away. Such localized work shall be considered a reinforced repair and shall comply with 6.4.1(c) of SANS 20109, thus limiting the looseness to patch size. SANS 1925:2008 E
22、dition 1.1 5 5.11 Add the following new 6.3.6.2: It is not permissible to do any work on belt 3 or any belts below this in the belt package. In the case of “Super Singles“, or tyres with a rim size of less than 17,5 inches, it is not permissible to do work on belt 2 or any belts below this in the be
23、lt package. 5.12 Add the following new 6.3.6.3: Where work has been performed on belt edge looseness in accordance with 5.10, a sticker shall be vulcanized to the casing that shall read: “salvage casing dual fitment only“. The placement and letter size shall fall in line with 3.2.5 of SANS 20109, un
24、ique point and annex 3. 5.13 Add the following new 6.3.6.4: Where work has been performed on belts in accordance with 6.3.6.1, no change to the load index of the tyre is required. 5.14 Add the following new 6.3.6.5: Where work has been performed on belts in accordance with 6.3.6.1, no change to the
25、speed rating of the tyre is required where the retreaded tread depth is 17 mm and below. Where the tread depth is in excess of 17 mm a speed restriction of 60 km/h shall be imposed on such salvage casing in operation until 17 mm is reached, where after such speed restriction shall be dropped. Notifi
26、cation of such speed restriction shall be stated on the selling invoice from the production unit. 5.15 Change the wording “in the national language of the country in which materials are to be used“ in 6.4.1(a) and (b) to “in English“. 5.16 Delete 6.4.9 and replace it with the following: The service
27、description of a retreaded tyre shall not show either a higher speed symbol or a higher load index than that of the original, first life, tyre. 5.17 Delete 6.4.10. 5.18 Change 6.5.1 to read as follows: During or after retreading, the tyre shall be inflated to at least 1,5 bar (150 kPa) for examinati
28、on. After curing, whilst a degree of heat is retained in a tyre, each retreaded tyre shall be examined to ensure that it is free from any apparent defects. Where there is any apparent defect in the profile of the tyre (e.g. blister, depression), the tyre shall be examined to determine the cause of t
29、his defect. 5.19 Change 6.5.2 to read as follows: Before, during and after retreading, the tyre shall be checked for the integrity of its structure by means of a suitable inspection method (by spreading the beads or inflation to check the integrity of the tyre). 30、nge 6.6.1 to read as follows: Tyres retreaded to comply with SANS 20109 shall be capable of meeting the adhesion between the casing and tread rubber test as specified in annex 7 of SANS 20109. 5.21 Change 6.6.2 to read as follows: A retreaded tyre which, after undergoing the test for adhesion betwee
31、n casing and tread rubber test, meets the minimum adhesion of 14 N/mm of width, shall be deemed to have passed the test. 5.22 Delete 6.6.3. 5.23 Add (f) to the text of annex 3 as follows: For salvage casings the sticker, “salvage casing dual fitment only“ with letters at least 4 mm high shall be fit
32、ted. The placement shall be grouped near the date code. (See 3.2.8.2.) 5.24 Delete the test procedure in annex 7 and use the test method given in SANS 1036. Check for compliance with 5.21. 5.25 Add a new drawing, “Parts of a radial tyre” as annex 10.
