9、3 2 This page is intentionally left blank SANS 238:2008 Edition 3 3 Liquid toilet soap 1 Scope This standard specifies the requirements of liquid toilet soap, for personal hygiene and that is suitable for use in liquid toilet soap dispensers. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents

13、y. 3.1 batch soap manufactured from one boil or, in the case of continuous production processes, material from a single days production 3.2 boil soap from one pan or vat SANS 238:2008 Edition 3 4 3.3 defective soap or its container that fails in one or more respects to comply with the requirements o

14、f the standard 3.4 lot quantity of soap that bears the same batch identification, made by one manufacturer, and submitted at any one time for inspection and testing 4 Requirements 4.1 General 4.1.1 Liquid toilet soap shall be in a clear and uniform aqueous solution, which may be coloured. It shall n

15、ot contain non-aqueous solvents or other foreign material, and solids shall not precipitate from it during storage at ambient temperature. 4.1.2 Liquid toilet soap shall not be irritating to normal skin and it shall not contain ingredients in quantities that are toxic to human beings. It shall lathe

16、r freely and quickly in water at ambient temperature, that has a hardness (expressed as calcium carbonate) of 200 10-6. 4.2 Odour 4.2.1 Liquid toilet soap, unless otherwise specified by the purchaser shall be perfumed and, both as received and when diluted in hot water, shall possess a pleasant odou

17、r. 4.2.2 It shall not develop an objectionable odour during storage at ambient temperature, and when perfumed its fragrance shall not change. 4.3 Consistency Liquid toilet soap, after being cooled to 4,5 C 0,5 C for 48 h shall remain liquid, and after standing undisturbed at ambient temperature for

18、a further 24 h, any separation shall have disappeared. 4.4 Chemical requirements The chemical requirements of liquid toilet soap shall, when tested in accordance with the relevant tests in column 3 of table 1, comply with the requirements given in column 2 of table 1. 4.5 Viscosity at 25 C The visco

19、sity of the liquid toilet soap as received, determined in accordance with 6.9 at 25 C, shall not be more than 1 Pa.s. 22、the implementation of quality control or testing during manufacture is available, the following sampling procedure shall be applied to determine whether a lot submitted for inspection and testing complies with the requirements of the standard. The samples so taken shall be deemed to represent the lo

23、t for the respective properties. The sampling procedure shall also be used for adjudication in cases of dispute. 5.1.2 Sample for inspection Draw at random from the lot a) five containers if the lot is packed in containers of net volume not exceeding 5 L, and b) three containers if the lot is packed

24、 in containers of net volume greater than 5 L. 5.1.3 Sample for testing 5.1.3.1 From the containers taken in accordance with 5.1.2, take at random enough soap to provide a laboratory sample of total volume at least 1 L (take equal quantities of soap from all containers). 5.1.3.2 Before drawing a sam

25、ple, thoroughly mix the contents of the container. SANS 238:2008 Edition 3 6 5.1.3.3 Pour the laboratory sample in clean, dry, air-tight glass or plastics containers clearly marked with the manufacturers name or trade mark, the batch identification, and the date of sampling. 5.2 Compliance with the

26、standard Deem the lot to comply with the requirements of the standard if, after inspection and testing of the samples taken in accordance with 5.1.2 and 5.1.3, the samples are found to comply with all the requirements of the standard. 6 Inspection and methods of test 6.1 Inspection 6.1.1 Inspect the

27、 containers taken in accordance with 5.1.2 for compliance with the requirements of clause 7. 6.1.2 Visually examine the samples taken in accordance with 5.1.2 for compliance with the requirements given in 4.1 and 4.2. 6.2 Preparation of test specimens 6.2.1 Composite specimen Thoroughly mix the samp

28、le taken in accordance with 5.1.3 by vigorously shaking it in the original glass or plastics bottle. 6.2.2 Test specimens 6.2.2.1 Immediately after preparing the composite specimen, take at one time all the test specimens required for analysis. 6.2.2.2 Weigh out the test specimen required for the de

29、termination of free alkali or free acid content last, and test it immediately. 6.2.2.3 Ensure that any pick-up or loss of moisture is reduced to a minimum by carrying out the weighing and the preparation of the test specimens as rapidly as possible. 6.3 Free alkali content or free acid content Use S

32、 pascal seconds. 7 Packing and marking 7.1 Packing 7.1.1 The liquid toilet soap shall be so packed as to prevent leakage and contamination of the product. 7.1.2 The liquid toilet soap shall be packed in containers that are strong enough to withstand normal usage and transportation. These containers

33、may then be packed in bulk packages. Only soap from the same batch shall be packed together in a container and, when relevant, in a bulk package. 7.2 Marking Each container and bulk package shall bear in prominent, legible and indelible marking the information required in terms of the relevant natio

34、nal regulations and statutory requirements (see foreword) and the following additional information, as relevant: a) the manufacturers name or trade mark or both; b) the words “Liquid Toilet Soap“; c) the batch identification (this may appear on containers only); d) the volume, in litres, of the cont

35、ents; and e) in the case of bulk packages, the number of containers.
