SANS 5780:2008 Edition 3 1 Chemical damage to cotton fibres by laundry detergents 1 Scope This standard specifies a method for the determination of the chemical damage to cotton fibres by laundry detergents. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispens

9、e of maintaining the contents or its containers at boiling point. Measuring cylinder with a capacity of 1000 mL, graduated in millilitres. 4 Materials Test cloth, as in SANS 5778. SANS 5780:2008 Edition 3 2 5 Procedure 5.1 From the test cloth, cut two swatches, each of size 68 mm 88 mm, and identify

10、 each with indelible marking ink. 5.2 Switch on the washing device and set it to boiling point. 5.3 Weigh out 30,00 g of the test sample and dissolve it in 750 mL of distilled water. Transfer a 250 mL volume of the well-mixed solution into each of two containers of the washing device and add a test

11、cloth swatch to each container. 5.4 Close the containers, install them in the washing device, start the device and let it run for 5 min. Release the pressure in the containers by opening and closing them momentarily, and then wash for 6 h. Remove the containers from the washing device, open them and

12、 let them stand overnight. 5.5 Next morning, drain off and discard the used wash solutions and refill each of the containers with 250 mL of the test solution, freshly prepared as in 5.3 and repeat the procedure given in 5.4. 5.6 Repeat 5.5 three more times. 5.7 After the 30 h total washing time, rin

13、se the swatches (after squeezing them by hand) four times in 1 L volumes of distilled water at ambient temperature, stirring each time for 1 min with a glass rod. 5.8 Then use SANS 5115 to determine the fluidity of the cotton fibres in each swatch. 6 Test report Report the following information: a) all the data needed to identify the laboratory sample tested; b) confirmation that the test was carried out in accordance with this standard; c) any deviation from this standard; and d) the result of the fluidity of the cotton fibres, in rhe.
