9、mens. 3 Apparatus 3.1 Sharp auger, of diameter 12,5 mm to 15 mm. 3.2 Tared airtight weighing bottle. 3.3 Stopper. 4 Procedure 4.1 Drilled specimens 4.1.1 General From each piece of the types in 4.1.2 to 4.1.5 (inclusive) take the drillings using a sharp auger (see 3.1), taking care to clear each hol

10、e of all drillings. In order to prevent loss of moisture, immediately place each drilled specimen in a tared airtight weighing bottle (see 3.2) and stopper (see 3.3) the bottle. SANS 5983:2008 Edition 3 2 4.1.2 Round poles of midlength diameter exceeding 125 mm Take the drillings from two holes of d

11、epth not deeper than the centre of the pole, and not exceeding 70 mm 5 mm, preferably one each on opposite sides of the pole, and approximately 150 mm away from and on either side of the midlength point, or, when relevant, in accordance with the relevant product standard. 4.1.3 Round poles of midlen

12、gth diameter 125 mm or less, half-round poles and droppers Take the drillings from one hole at approximately midlength and drilled face to face through the centre of the pole or half-round, as relevant. 4.1.4 Sawn or laminated timber of thickness exceeding 76 mm Take the drillings from two holes of

13、depth approximately 75 mm, the first on one edge of the piece and one-third of its length from the adjacent end of the piece and one-third of its thickness from the face-side, and the second on the other edge and positioned similarly from the other end and the back of the piece. 4.1.5 Sawn or lamina

14、ted sleepers for rails Take the drillings from one hole of depth approximately 75 mm, in the centre of an edge, approximately 150 mm away from the midlength point. 4.2 Cut and other specimens 4.2.1 Mosaic flooring From each panel take one defect-free fillet and place it in an airtight container. 4.2

15、.2 Other specimens 4.2.2.1 General From each piece of the types in 4.2.2.2 to 4.2.2.6 (inclusive) cut a specimen that embodies the full cross section of the piece, and immediately place the specimen in an airtight container. 4.2.2.2 Other sawn or laminated timber and round and half-round sticks Take

16、 a full cross-section of the piece, of length at least 20 mm (measured in the direction of the grain of the wood), from a position that is free from knots and resin infiltration, and at least 300 mm from the adjacent end of the piece, but for pieces of length less than 600 mm, at approximately midle

17、ngth. 4.2.2.3 Shelving, flooring, ceiling, panelling and other moulded boards or strips, and flooring blocks Take a full cross-section as described in 4.2.2.2. 4.2.2.4 Particle board Use the method given in EN 322.
