10、 This standard specifies the requirements for clamps for wire ropes for producing temporary rope terminations, where these terminations are subject to safety requirements, i.e. where failure of the rope termination could endanger persons. WARNING Clamps for wire ropes manufactured in accordance with

11、 this standard shall not be used with hoist ropes in mines, in rope drives for cranes in steel works and rolling mills or for permanent fastenings of ropes in other rope drives, elevator, personnel hoisting and scaffolding applications. Nor shall they be used for rope terminations for load suspensio

12、n devices in the operation of lifting appliances, except in the case of lifting tackle where these devices are produced for a special application and the rope is not reused. This standard includes permanent terminations for counterweights for conveyor systems or stays. 2 Normative references The fol

21、 acceptable to the authority administering this standard or to the parties concluding the purchase contract, as relevant Amdt 1 3.2 clamp grip mechanical device consisting of a grooved saddle with U-bolts or two saddles with bolts and nuts. The clamp is designed to hold two ropes together 3.3 grade

22、clamps shall be graded according to the ultimate tensile strength: for example, 4 for commercial grade clamps and 6 for higher grade clamps 3.4 live end/dead end that part of the rope attached directly to the load is referred to as the “live end“. Conversely, the other end is referred to as the “dea

23、d end“ 3.5 nominal size nominal diameter of the wire rope for which the clamp is intended 3.6 rope joint rope joint consists of one live end and one dead end (see 3.4 and figure 2) SANS 813:2008 Edition 3.2 5 4 Requirements 4.1 General This standard is intended for metric sized wire rope clamps. Whe

24、re, however, non-metric sized nuts and U-bolts are used, the screw threads shall comply with the applicable requirements of SANS 1700-2-10, SANS 1700-2-12 and ISO 68-2. Amdt 2Calculations for the required tightening torque and joint test force shall be based on the appropriate SANS standard. 4.2 Bod

25、ies 4.2.1 General The dimensions of the saddle base and crest of the body shall be in accordance with columns 4 and 5 of tables 1 and 2 (see also figure 1). The flare of the saddle shall be not less than 15 to the vertical. 4.2.2 Materials 4.2.2.1 Commercial grade bodies Commercial grade bodies shal

26、l be made from one of the following materials, as required (see annex B): a) Drop forgings forged solid, without welds, in accordance with EN 10243-1 and EN 10243-2, from steel having the following physical requirements: Amdt 1Maximum Brinell number = 123 Maximum Vickers hardness = 128 Maximum Rockw

27、ell C hardness = 70 Minimum tensile strength = 430 MPa Minimum yield strength = 280 MPa Minimum elongation on a gauge length of 5,65 S0= 22 %, where S0is the cross-sectional area; NOTE See table C.1 for converting tensile strength to hardness. b) Whiteheart malleable iron castings complying with the

28、 requirements of EN 1562; c) Blackheart malleable iron castings complying with the requirements of EN 1562; and d) Iron castings with spheroidal or nodular graphite complying with the requirements for grade SG 38 or SG 42 of SANS 936. SANS 813:2008 Edition 3.2 6 4.2.2.2 Higher grade bodies Higher gr

29、ade bodies shall be drop forgings forged solid, without welds, in accordance with EN 10243-1 and EN 10243-2, from steel having the following physical requirements: Amdt 1 a) Maximum Brinell number = 179; b) Maximum Vickers hardness = 184; c) Maximum Rockwell C hardness = 90; d) Minimum tensile stren

30、gth = 600 MPa; e) Minimum yield strength = 400 MPa; and f) Minimum elongation on a gauge length of 5,65 S0= 17 %, where S0is the cross-sectional area. NOTE See table C.1 for converting tensile strength to hardness. 4.2.3 Rope grooves Unless otherwise specified by the purchaser (see annex B), bodies

31、shall be grooved for round strand wire rope of right-hand lay having six strands. 4.3 U-bolts, bolts and nuts 4.3.1 U-bolts and bolts The nominal diameter of commercial grade clamps shall be as given in column 2 of table 1, appropriate to the nominal size of the clamp, as given in column 1, and as r

32、equired by the purchaser (see annex B). The nominal diameter of higher grade clamps shall be as given in column 2 of table 2, appropriate to the nominal size of the clamp, as given in column 1, and as required by the purchaser (see annex B). U-bolts and bolts shall have a minimum tensile strength co

33、rresponding to grade 6.8 of SANS 1700-511. Shanks with a diameter less than the nominal outside diameter of the thread shall not be acceptable. SANS 813:2008 Edition 3.2 8 4.3.2 Nuts Nuts shall be hexagon nuts complying with the relevant requirements of SANS 1700-14-1, SANS 1700-14-2 and SANS 1700-14-3. 4.4

43、 Screw threads Screw threads shall comply with the requirements for coarse metric thread, having a class 7 H (free fit) tolerance in the case of nuts, and a class 8 g (free fit) tolerance in the case of U-bolts and bolts. Screw threads may be cut or rolled. The distance of the thread run-out from th

44、e centre line of the U-bolt shall be between 0,5 d and 0,6 d (see figure 1). NOTE In the cases of galvanized and sherardized screw threads, special attention is drawn to the relevant information given in SANS 32 and SANS 1700-5-11. 4.5 Design The design of the clamps shall not be restricted by the i

45、llustration given in figure 1, which is only intended to clarify the text. 4.6 Finish 4.6.1 General Bodies shall be neatly forged, and U-bolts, bolts and nuts shall be neatly formed. All parts shall be free from roughness and sharp edges. 4.6.2 Coatings Unless one of the following coatings is specif

46、ied by the purchaser (see annex B), clamps and bolts shall be supplied uncoated: a) Hot-dip galvanized coatings which comply with the relevant requirements of SANS 32. When checked in accordance with ASTM A 143, hot-dip galvanized clamps and bolts shall show no hydrogen embrittlement. b) Hot-dip gal

47、vanized coatings which comply with the relevant requirements of SANS 121. c) Sherardized coatings which comply with the requirements of SANS 121. 4.7 Effectiveness of clamps When tested in accordance with 7.3, the rope shall not slip in the clamps and the clamps shall not be damaged in any way. 48、 813:2008 Edition 3.2 9 Figure 1 Typical clamp 5 Packing and marking 5.1 Packing Clamps shall be packed in an acceptable manner that will prevent damage during transport, storage and handling. Only clamps of the same design, size, material, and finish shall be packed together in the same container.

49、Clamps of grade 6 shall be packed individually. 5.2 Marking 5.2.1 On clamps The following details shall be marked legibly (e.g. by means of embossing) on the clamps. Amdt 1 a) the name, trade name or trademark of the manufacturer; b) the nominal size; SANS 813:2008 Edition 3.2 10 c) the grade (e.g. 4 or 6) (see 3.3); and d) a traceability identification code or batch number. 5.2.2 On packages Each package containing clamps shall bear t
