10、 left blank SANS 962-1:2009 Edition 2.2 3 Mechanical fasteners for conveyor belts Part 1: Plate-and-bolt type fasteners 1 Scope This part of SANS 962 specifies the requirements for plate-and-bolt type mechanical fasteners for conveyor belts for normal industrial applications and where special abrasi

11、on-resistant or corrosion-resistant properties (or both) are required. It does not cover vulcanized joints. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. All standards are subject to revision and, sinc

12、e any reference to a standard is deemed to be a reference to the latest edition of that standard, parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to take steps to ensure the use of the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. Amdt 2 3 Definitions For the purposes of this standard the following definitions apply: 3.1 acceptable acceptable to the authorities administe

15、ring this standard, or to parties concluding the purchase contract, as relevant Amdt 1 3.2 agreed as agreed upon between the manufacturer and purchaser SANS 962-1:2009 Edition 2.2 4 3.3 plate-and-bolt type conveyor belt fastener an assembly comprising bottom plate, top plate, bolts, nuts, and, when

16、relevant, retaining device(s) (see figure 1) 3.4 retaining device a device (usually in the form of a clip) which, when fitted to a plate-and-bolt type mechanical conveyor belt fastener, prevents the bolt heads from being pushed up and out of position 4 Requirements 4.1 Type of mechanical fastener Th

17、e fastener shall be of one of the types given in 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. Both types shall be of the permanent type. 4.1.1 Heavy duty These fasteners shall be manufactured from mild steel (see 4.2). 4.1.2 Extra-heavy duty The top plates of these fasteners shall be manufactured from abrasion-resistant steel a

18、nd shall be fitted with high-tensile steel bolts. If required (see annex A), the fasteners and fittings shall be manufactured from corrosion-resistant steel (see 4.2). 4.2 Materials 4.2.1 The materials (see 4.1.1 and 4.1.2) shall be sound, free from rust, scale and other deleterious defects and shal

19、l be such as to enable the fastener to comply with the requirements of 4.4. 4.2.2 Mechanical conveyor belt fasteners shall be made of materials that have the necessary chemical and mechanical properties. The fasteners shall be manufactured from mild steel (see 4.1.1), abrasion-resistant steel or cor

20、rosion-resistant steel, as required (see 4.1.2). 4.3 Design and dimensions The design of plate-and-bolt type fasteners shall be generally similar to the typical design shown in figure 1. The dimensions of the fastener components shall conform to the appropriate values given in table 1. SANS 962-1:20

Amdt 2 4.4 Construction 4.4.1 Plates and bolts The bolt head shall not protrude below the surface of the bottom plate of the fastener, and the nut shall not protrude more than 0,5 mm above the surface of the top plate. 4.4.2 Profiles, positions and set of teeth The profiles, the position

25、s and the set of teeth of a fastener shall be such that the teeth on one plate do not foul any part of the other plate. 4.4.3 Recommended minimum pulley dimensions The recommended minimum pulley sizes are given in table 2. 27、0 610 2 2 105 75 14 30 19 25 920 1 070 860 1 070 860 1 070 4.5 Performance 4.5.1 Retaining device test When tested in accordance with 5.2, a fastener shall be deemed to have failed if the retaining device(s) cannot support the test load. 4.5.2 Torque test When tested in accordance with 5.3, a fasten

28、er shall be deemed to have failed if the test torque cannot be applied to each bolt because a) the wrench slips in the nut slot, b) the bolt slips in the fastener or on the wrench, or c) the threads fail. 4.5.3 Bolt breaking test When tested in accordance with 5.4, a fastener shall be deemed to have

29、 failed if it shows any of the following defects: a) after breaking off the excess bolt lengths, a bolt end is below the outer surface of the nut, or is more than 1,6 mm above this surface in the case of fasteners of up to number 2, and more than 2,4 mm above it in the case of bigger numbers, or b)

30、cracks appear in the nut. 4.5.4 Strength of joint (optional) NOTE This test is usually conducted to test the performance of the belt(s) in combination with a fastener or fasteners and will only be carried out if specifically required by the purchaser. It does not form part of the certification requi

31、rements for plate-and-bolt type fasteners. Amdt 2 If required to be tested in accordance with 5.5 (see annex A), the strength of the joint between a belt and a fastener shall be at least equal to 50 % of the new-belt strength of the conveyor belt to which they will be fitted. (See SANS 971 or SANS 1

32、173.) Amdt 2 SANS 962-1:2009 Edition 2.2 8 4.6 Tools If required (see annex A), the following tools shall be supplied with each order: a) a wrench for torquing the fasteners; b) two bolt breakers; and c) a suitable template. 4.7 Finish Fasteners shall be free from sharp edges that do not contribute

33、to the functioning of the fasteners. 5 Inspection and methods of test 5.1 Inspection Inspect the sample(s) for compliance with all the requirements of this standard for which tests to assess compliance are not given in 6.2 to 6.4 (inclusive). 5.2 Retaining device test 5.2.1 Support the bottom plate

34、of the fastener, complete with bolts and retaining device(s), with the bolt heads downwards in a vice. 5.2.2 Ensure that there is no obstruction that will assist the action of the retaining device(s) and apply an upward / downward tensile load of 45 N to the end of each bolt in turn. 5.2.3 Check for

35、 compliance with 4.5.1. 5.3 Torque test 5.3.1 Assemble the fastener loosely and grip it firmly (with the bolt heads downwards) in a vice. 5.3.2 Using the wrench supplied by the manufacturer for the purpose, apply the appropriate test torque given in table 3 while exerting enough hand pressure on the

36、 wrench to hold it in the nut slot. 5.3.3 Check for compliance with 4.5.2. 5.4 Bolt breaking test At the conclusion of the torque test and using the two bolt breakers supplied by the manufacturer for the purpose, break off the excess length of each bolt. NOTE This test serves as a type test fo

38、r new combinations of belt and fastener. It will usually be conducted to test the performance of the belt(s) in combination with a fastener or fasteners and will only be carried out if specifically required by the purchaser. It does not form part of the certification requirements for plate-and-bolt

39、type fasteners. Amdt 2 5.5.2 Apparatus 5.5.2.1 Metallic adaptor plate, for joints that can be disconnected. 5.5.2.2 Tensile testing machine, that has been inspected and calibrated in accordance with the requirements of ISO 7500-1 for a grade 1.0 machine not more than six months before the test and f

40、or which a certificate covering the most recent calibration is available for inspection purposes. 5.5.3 Test pieces 5.5.3.1 Shape, dimensions and preparation A test piece consists of two lengths of full-thickness belting cut in the longitudinal direction, each of minimum length 150 mm 10 mm plus the

41、 gripped length, and 150 mm 10 mm wide, that have been assembled by means of the mechanical fastener. When the overall fastened width in service is equal to the belt width, the width of the test piece may be considered equal to the overall fastened width, but subject to a minimum width of 100 mm. Cu

42、t the test lengths out of a suitable piece of unused belting. 5.5.3.2 Number of test pieces Perform the test on three test pieces. 5.5.3.3 Conditioning Condition the test piece in accordance with the requirements of the applicable of SANS 971 or SANS 1173. Amdt 2 5.5.4 Test conditions Carry out the

43、test under general laboratory conditions. 5.5.5 Procedure 5.5.5.1 Fasten the ends of the test piece in the grips of the tensile testing machine appropriate to the type of testing machine. 5.5.5.2 Exert the tensile force symmetrically at a rate of 100 mm/min 10 mm/min and record the maximum force bef

44、ore failure of the test piece occurs. 5.5.5.3 Repeat 5.5.5.1 and 5.5.5.2 on the remaining two test pieces. SANS 962-1:2009 Edition 2.2 10 5.5.6 Expression of results Find the mean of the three values obtained and calculate: a) the average breaking strength of the joint, in newtons per millimetre wid

45、th of fastening, and b) the strength of the joint, expressed as a percentage of the full-thickness longitudinal minimum breaking strength of the belt, in accordance with the applicable of SANS 971 or SANS 1173. Amdt 2 Check for compliance with 4.5.4. 5.5.7 Test report If required, supply a test repo

46、rt, in accordance with the applicable of SANS 971 or SANS 1173. Amdt 2 6 Packing and marking 6.1 Packing Fasteners shall be packed in acceptable containers. Only fasteners of the same number designation and type of material shall be packed together. 6.2 Marking 6.2.1 Fasteners The following informat

47、ion shall be legibly and permanently marked on each bottom plate and each top plate: a) the number designation; b) the manufacturers name, trade name or trade mark; c) the number of this standard. 6.2.2 Containers The following information shall be legibly and permanently marked on each container: a

48、) the number designation; b) the manufacturers name, trade name or trade mark; c) the quantity of fasteners; d) the type of fastener (“heavy duty“ or “extra-heavy duty“); e) the number of this standard; and f) any other markings agreed upon (see annex A). 49、ative) Notes to purchasers A.1 The following requirements are to be specified in tender invitations and each order or contract: a) the type of fastener required (see 4.1.1 and 4.1.2); b) where applicable, the material from which the fasteners are to be manufactured (see 4.1.2); and c) the number designation of the fastener (see table 1). A.2 The following is to be agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser: a) the tools required for the fasteners (see 4.6); b) whether static testing is required (see 5.5); an
