Their purpose is to ensure that a PB built accordi

、ng to this standard can communicate with any ACRE manufactured according to this standard. Conversely, these technical requirements ensure that an ACRE manufactured according to this standard can communicate with any PB built according to this standard. These requirements do not address the quality

、or reliability of this service, nor do they cover equipment performance or measurement procedures. To ensure compatibility, it is essential that both physical layer parameters and call-processing procedures be specified. Physical layer parameters are described in detail for both the PB and the ACRE.

、 Detailed call-processing procedures are specified for the PB to ensure a uniform response to all ACRES. Call-processing procedures are described in less detail for the ACRE to allow more latitude in system design. Authentication procedures in this Standard incorporate processes described in TIA Com

、mon Cryptographic algorithms, revision B (the distribution of this document is controlled be the TIA). These technical requirements have been organized into four sections. The following is a summary of each section: 1. Introduction. This section comprises a list of brief explanations of terms, proce

、sses, and functions used in these requirements. Since it is the intention of these requirements to permit great latitude of system configurations and the implementation of system features, only those items required for compatibility have strict definitions. 2. Personal Base Compatibility Requirement

、s. This section comprises the fundamental signaling compatibility requirements of the PB. If strictly adhered to, the PB technically will be able to signal an ACRE. In general, changes or alterations to this section will affect fundamental PB - ACRE compatibility and the ability of the PB to signal

、an ACRE irrespective of signaling conditions. 3. ACRE Compatibility Requirements. This section comprises the fundamental signaling compatibility requirements of the ACRE and is organized in a manner similar to 2. (In fact, 2 and 3 should be read together for a clearer understanding of the bi-directi

、onal signaling protocol.) If strictly adhered to, an ACRE technically will be able to signal a PB. In general, changes or alterations to this section will affect fundamental PB - ACRE compatibility and the ability of the PB to signal an ACRE irrespective of signaling conditions. 4. Change History. A successful outcome of the authentication process occurs only when it can be demonstrated that the PB and ACRE possess identical WMEY values. 2.2.4.1 Wireline Interface Key (WIKEY) WKEY is a 64-bit pattern stored in the PB and the ACRE (in semi-permanent memory). It is stored in the PB

、during the manufacturing process. The WMEY shall not be capable of being displayed or altemi by the user. It is provided to system operators at the time of manufacture. WMEY may be changed during the WMEY update process (see 2.2.4.7). If WIKEY is modified, it is the responsibility of system operator
