NOTE: The best focus is

10、 obtained by adjusting for a single distinct line on the outer surface of the coating, interfaces one (i) and four (4). Interfaces two (2) and three (3) have width and cannot be focused to a single distinct line. There may be additional interfaces between the cladding-coating and coating-immersion f

11、luid interfaces representing additional layers. These interface lines will also have width and cannot be focused to a single distinct line, The hairline of the measurement equipment must be placed consistently throughout the duration of the test. If the sample appears to vibrate in the microscope, c

12、heck for an improper level of immersion fluid. 5.8.1.1 While viewing the magnified image, rotate the sample in the fixture until the estimated maximum outside diameter of the coated fiber is shown in the microscope or video monitor. While the hairline of the measurement equipment is in the plane sho

13、wing the maximum outside diameter of the coated fiber, move it from interface one (1) to interface four (4). Record the maximum outside diameter of the coated fiber. 5.8.1.2 While viewing the magnified image, rotate the sample in the fixture until the estimated minimum outside diameter of the coated

14、 fiber is shown in the microscope or video monitor. While the hairline of the measurement equipment is in the plane showing the minimum outside diameter of the coated fiber, move it from interface one (i) to interface four (4). Record the minimum outside diameter of the coated fiber. 5.3.1.3 While v

15、iewing the magnified image, rotate the sample in the fixture until the estimated minimum overall wall thickness (the thickness from the cladding/coating interface to the coating/fluid interface) is shown in the microscope or video monitor, While the hairline of the measurement equipment is in the pl

16、ane showing the minimum overall wall thickness, move it from interface one (1) to interface two (2) and from interface three (3) to interface four (4). Record both measurements. These measurements will yield the minimum and corresponding opposite overall wall thicknesses of the coatings. 5.4 Calcula
