This Telecommunications Systems Bulletin has been developed by Subcommittee TR-45.6, and contains information which may be useful to implementors of systems compliant with TSB-87, ”Cellular Digital Packet Data System Specification,” or its

CDPD is a technology intended to provide packet data networking services to mobile hosts. The media used to provide these services consists of radio channels typi

Each Part contains information pertaining to one aspect of the system. The functional structure of this TSB is as follows: o Part 1000 t

34、o Part 1999-Guidelines for Service Providers These Parts are informative and discuss non-CDPD specific entities (such as Intermediate Systems), support services (such as directory .- 20114ii Previous page is blank - STDmEIA TSB87-20LL-ENGL 1997 3234600 Ob00937 It78 = TIA/EIA/TCB-87-2011 Mobile Data

Part 2000 to Part 2999-Guidelines for Manufacturers of CDPD equipment These Parts are informative and discuss such concerns as CDPD-specific entities (such as Mobile End Systems (M-ESs), Mobile Data Base Stations (MDBSs) and Mobile Data Intermediate Systems (MD-ISS), external interfac

Part 3000 to Part 3999-Guidelines for the CDPD Network Information Center (NIC). These Parts are informative and describe the issues a

39、lays in the CDPD Network. Profiles are provided for the interfaces between the MDBS and other components of the CDPD Network. Functional Description The MDBS is the stationary network component with responsibility for interactions across the Airlink Interface. The primary role of the MDBS is to rela

40、y data between the Mobile End Systems (M-ESs) and the Mobile Data Intermediate System (MD-IS). On the airlink side, the MDBS manages communications across the radio channels. The logical medium that connects the MDBS to the set of M-ESs listening to a particular RF channel at any given time is calle

41、d a channel stream. The channel stream may be thought of as a pair of point-to- multipoint channels. In the forward direction, MDBS transmissions are received by all M-ESs. In the reverse direction, the MDBS receives the transmissions of a transmitting M-ES. An M-ES is unable to receive the transmis

42、sions of another M-ES directly. - 2011-1 - STD=EIA TSBB7-2011-ENGL 1997 3234b00 Ob00939 T40 TIAEIAKSB-87-2011 Mobile Data Base Station The RF channel that is used to carry a channel stream may be changed from time to time. This process is known as channel hopping. Normally, an M-ES shall track a cha

43、nnel hop, so that it remains on the same channel stream. In some circumstances, an M-ES may fail to track a channel hop and may acquire a different channel stream after a channel hop. In addition, a moving M-ES may acquire a channel stream in a different cell from time to time. The procedure is call

44、ed cell transfer. On the land side, the MDBS relays messages to the MD-IS. The communications medium between the MDBS and the MD-IS is unspecified and may be any kind of data communications network. The interface between the MDBS and the MD-IS is defined as either a set of IS0 Transport Protocol (TP

45、4) connections or a set of Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs) under Frame Relay. Each connection or PVC relays the traffic for a single channel stream. The MDBS is capable of controlling CDPD transmissions for one or more channel streams across one or more cells. The MDBS is responsible for: o MDBS r

46、elay functions o o Relaying data between the M-ESs and the MD-ISS Arbitrating M-ES access to the Airlink Interface via a Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. Ensuring the CDPD transmissions do not interfere with non-CDPD transmissions on the same RF channels Supplying configuration data to the M-ES

47、s to allow them to maintain connectivity to the network in the face of channel hops and cell transfers Monitoring and adjusting the transmit power levels of the M-ESs. o Radio Resource Management functions o o o Accepting and implementing management commands from the Network Management System (NMS).

48、 o 2.1 MDLP Relay Function The relay function shall be supplied by the Mobile Data Link Protocol (MDLP) Relay element. This is an Interworking function that shall accept MDLP frames, as defined in IS-732-403, across the MAC interface defined in IS-732-402, and shall transfer them in sequence across

49、the interface to the MD-IS (and vice versa). 2.1.1 Channel Stream Connectivity For each channel stream supported by the MDBS, a separate instance of the CDPD Airlink MACPhysical subprofde and a separate instance of either the IS0 COTS-CLNS subprofile or the PVC-Frame Relay subprofde are required. These subprofiles are defined in IS-732-3121. These define a 2011-2 STD-EIA TSB87-20Ll-ENGL 1997 D 3234600 0600940 762 - Functional Description TIAIEIAKSB-87-2011 channel stream and a link between the MDBS and MD-IS, using mapping procedures defin
