It is 4 intended to facilitate the development of an open standard for equipment 5 p
30、roduction, and to provide basic functional requirements that can be used for 6 development of a more detailed standard for these modems. 7 1.2 Scope 8 The implementation of efficient techniques that utilize multiaccess, packet-based 9 Internet Protocol (IP) services over transponded satellite channe
31、ls will increase 10 capabilities in the near term and provide an evolutionary path for the transition 11 from current satellite communications (SATCOM) systems to the 12 Transformational Communications capabilities in the future. This document 13 provides the minimum set of functional capabilities t
32、hat ensure interoperability 14 among modems supporting IP services required to achieve this goal. Functional 15 capabilities are described for IP modems to support the following network 16 topologies: 17 1. mesh 18 2. hub-spoke 19 3. point-to-point. 20 A particular IP modem implementation needs to s
33、upport only the subset of these 21 topologies and transmission modes that are needed for its intended application. 22 However, the intent is to define these capabilities synergistically so that a single 23 IP modem design could support all of the network topologies and transmission 24 modes (burst o
34、r continuous). The functional capabilities pertain to the 25 standardization of a set of air interfaces and supporting waveforms, a set of 26 terrestrial network interfaces, logical channel structures, control and management 27 interfaces, and protocols. 28 1.3 Document Organization 29 This document
35、 is organized into five sections and an appendix. Section 1 30 presents an overview of the document. Section 2 describes the system 31 architecture of networks that utilize IP modems to provide IP layer connectivity. 32 Sections 3, 4, and 5 describe detailed IP modem functional capabilities to suppo
