、t parts and assemblies. Additionally, it provides the infrastructure for use with other FOTPs and associated Generic, Sectional or Detail Specifications that may detail explicit requirements for reported information and acceptance criteria. This test method may be used at any stage, or at event mile

、stones, of the qualification or quality conformance inspection test sequence as a “stand alone“ test or for prelpost exposure examinations. 1.2 Scope The appropriate application of this procedure is for examination of products for “Macro-type“ defects rather than for “Micro-type“ defects, which may

、also be present in any product. Consequently, relatively low power magnification values have been specified for optical instruments, and nonspecialized measurement instrument usage is intended. Do not apply this procedure to critical defects or product features that cannot be reliably detected and e

、valuated by the apparatus referenced in this test method. For those instances, utilize another test method that provides more suitable procedures or establish a new method specific to that requirement. However, as noted in 3.4 and 8.7, the Detail Specification may require additional or modified crit

The primary criteria for determining suitability are procedural clarity and completeness, and assessment of evaluation reliability. “Micro-measurement“ inspection of fundamental geometric configurations such as optical fiber

I

、t is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.3.2 Electrical Caution: Lethal voltages may be present in both test samples and equipment used during this test. It is e

、ssential that the test specimens, apparatus and all associated equipment that may be electrically connected are properly designed and installed for safe operation. Electrically ground all conductive parts that may be contacted during the testing by personnel. Utilize Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI) dev

、ices wherever appropriate or required by code regulations. Thoroughly instruct all operators in the proper procedures to conduct the test safely. When testing involves electrodes and high voltages or arc generation, particularly in compressed gas or in oil, the energy released at breakdown may be su

、fficient to result in fire, explosion or rupture to test chambers. Design of test equipment, test chambers, and test specimens shall be such as to minimize the possibility of such occurrences, and to eliminate the possibility of personal injury. 1.3.3 Optical Handling Warning: Care should be taken w

、hen handling small diameter optical fiber to prevent skin puncture and fiber breakage, especially in the eye area. Safety glasses should be worn when working with fibers. Carefully dispose of all fiber ends. Ocular Warning: Fiber ends and unmated connectors may emit invisible laser or LED radiation.

、 Avoid direct eye exposure to the beam. Do not inspect with magnifying instruments. Protective dust caps should be kept on all unmated connectors. Refer to ANSI 2136.2, American National Standard for the Safe Use of Lasers, for additional eye safety precautions. 1.4 Precedence This test method is in

、tended for use with specific criteria, requirements and sequences defined within product specification documents conforming to the IECQ multi-tiered document structure. It is also intended for use in conjunction with other FOP methods. In the event conflicting requirements or instructions exist, the

、 order of precedence for application shall be Detail Specification over Sectional Specification over Generic Specification over FOTP. 2 NOTE: This is consistent with the reverse sequence of document specification under the IECQ System.
