23、This FOTP is part of the series of test procedures included within Recommended Standard EIA/TIA-455. 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Intent This procedure is used to measure the retention characteristics of the resilient member of a fiber optic component (most commonly a connector). It is specifically intended
24、for use when it is impracticable to define acceptance/rejection criteria for resilient members by the use of size dimensions. 1.2 Description The method is applicable to either male or female resilient members. For the case of a male member, a ring gauge is forced over the member and the minimum fri
25、ctional force to pull it off is assessed by its ability to pick up a weight. The procedure is identical for a female resilient member except that a gauge pin is substituted for the ring gauge. 1.3 Alternative Procedures This test procedure is an alternative to the measurement procedure, titled Gauge

The weight of the gauge is
29、 adjusted to the specified value. The Detail Specification shall define the gauge. The definition shall include toleranced dimensions, material, and weight, along with the surface hardness and finish for the working area of the gauge . 3.2 Solvent Select a sovent(s) that is capable of removing all t

Measure the force required to accomplish the insertion, and compare with the maximum allowable force specified in the Detail Specification. Reject the part if the measured force exceeds the requirement. 5.4.2

Hold the gauge in a vertically downward position for 6. CALCULATIONS OR INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS This Section is not applicable to this procedure. EIA/TIA

IEC Reference is made to IEC-874-1, Third Edition 3 , “Connectors for optical fibres and cables, Part 1: Generic specification.“ IEC-874-1, Third Edition, defines a measurement procedure titled Gauge Retention Force, which is, insofar as can be determined, the same as the test defined in FOTP
41、-186. It is believed that this IEC method was originally created to test electrical connectors and was later adapted to fiber optic connectors. 242. CCITT There are no references to any test equivalent to this FOTP known to exist in CCITT documents. in process of preparation. Pending publication of this revision, the test can be found in Clause 4.4.4 Of IEC/86B(Central Officel69.
