23、hods and Instrumentation.) This FOTP is part of the series of test procedures included within Recommended Standard EIA/TIA-455. 1. NTRODUCTION 1.1 Intent The purpose of this procedure is to measure the forces or torques that are required to fully couple or uncouple a connector set. 1.2 Description T

24、he connector set components are held in a fixture SO that a controlled coupling force or torque can be applied. The force or torque is measured during the entire coupling and/or uncoupling cycle. The procedure is applicable to either twist type or push-pull type coupling mechanisms. 1.3 Alternative

25、Procedures This test procedure is an alternative to the measurement procedure, titled Engagement and Separation Force of IEC 874-1, Third Edition. EIA/TIA-455-187 Page 2 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of

26、 this procedure. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this procedure are encouraged to apply the most recent editions of the referenced standards. APPARATUS The apparatus consists of a holding fixture( s) , a force or torque ge

28、nerator, and a force or torque measuring instrument. 3.1 Holding Future(s) The holding fixture shall hold the mating components so that they do not influence the measured force or torque value. They shall maintain mating components in proper alignment throughout the coupling cycle. 3.2 Force or Torq

29、ue Generator The force or torque generator shall smoothly apply the force or torque. Hand coupling of the connectors is permitted. 3.3 Force or Torque Measuring Instrument The measuring instrument shall continuously measure the force or torque throughout the coupling cycle. 31、ail Specification, select the test specimens randomly from the lot(s) being tested and according to the schedule in the Detail Specification. 4.2 specimens. The Detail Specification shall define the specimen. 5.1 Preconditioning Precondition the specimen as required by the Detail Specification. 5.2

32、Measurement 5.2.1 Position the connector set components in the holding fixture. 5.2.2 Apply and measure the force or torque to couple the connector set. Unless otherwise specified, the minimum allowable coupling time is 3 seconds. 5.2.3 Apply and measure the force or torque to uncouple the connector

33、 set. Unless otherwise specified, the minimum allowable uncoupling time is 3 seconds. 6. CALCULATIONS OR INTERPREI?A!ON OF RESULTS This Section is not applicable to this procedure. EIA/TIA-455-187 Page 4 7.1 As a minimum, the documentation shall provide the following information: 7.1.1 Title of meas

34、urement and date. 7.1.2 Specimen description and the measured feature. The description shall contain the specimen variant identification number, when applicable. 7.1.3 The apparatus used and the date of latest calibration. 7.1.4 All applicable measurement details (see Section 8). 7.1.5 All measureme

35、nt values and observations. 7.2 The following information shall be reported and available only for U.S. Military applications: 7.2.1 Test personnel. 8 SPECIFICATION INFORMATiON The Detail Specification shall specify the following details, as applicable: . 8.1 8.2 The maximum and/or minimum allowable

36、 coupling force or torque (5.2.2). A definition of the specimen to be tested (see Section 4.). 8.3 The maximum and/or minimum allowable uncoupling force or torque (5.2.3). 8.4 The minimum allowable coupling time (5.2.2) or uncoupling time (5.2.3), if other than stated in 5.2.2 or 5.2.3. 8.5 Precondi

38、1: Generic specification.11 IEC-874-1, Third Edition, defines a measurement procedure titled Engagement and Separation Force, that is, insofar as can be determined, the same as the test defined in FOTP-187. It is believed that this IEC method was originally created to test electrical connectors and was later adapted to fiber optic connectors. A2.
