、 suitability of mounting systems for site-specific applications. This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with ANSI/TIA-222-G, “Structural Standard for Antenna Supporting Structures and Antennas” (TIA-222). The intent is to provide a mount classification that is based on the structural ca
、pacity of a mounting system, eliminating the need for a structural analysis of the mounting system for site-specific mounting applications that are within the limitations outlined in this Standard. It is not the intent of this document to require the investigation or classification of mounting syste
、ms to be included in a TIA-222 rigorous analysis of an existing supporting structure. This Standard is intended to provide procedures for the following: 1. How to determine the maximum loads that may be supported at a mounting pipe location for mounting systems classified in accordance with this Sta
、ndard (refer to Section 3.0). 2. How to determine the required mount classification for a site-specific mounting application (refer to Section 4.0). 3. How to determine the classification of a mounting system based on a structural analysis by a Qualified Engineer (refer to Section 5.0). A further ob
、jective of this Standard is to establish marking and documentation requirements for mounting systems classified in accordance with this Standard (refer to Section 6.0). Marking requirements are intended to facilitate the identification of mounting systems. Documentation requirements are intended to
、provide a Qualified Engineer with information needed to calculate the effective projected area of a mounting configuration when performing a structural analysis of a supporting structure in accordance with TIA-222. In addition, this information is intended to provide a Qualified Engineer with inform
、ation needed to perform stability and strength calculations for mounting applications that are outside the scope of this Standard. SCOPE This Standard addresses requirements for mounting systems supporting antennas and related appurtenances. The requirements for rigging or for climber anchorage are
、not within the scope of this Standard. Loading combinations are provided in this Standard for the structural design of mounting system members and their connections for the purpose of establishing mount classifications. All mounting systems regardless of classification, may be investigated in accord
、ance with TIA-222 or this Standard for specific applications. The loading combinations provided in this Standard specify maintenance loads for certain mount classifications. All construction activities, including maintenance, associated with a mounting system shall be defined in a rigging plan and s
、hall be supervised on-site by a Competent Rigger in accordance with ANSI/ASSE A10.48, “Criteria for Safety Practices with the Construction, Demolition, Modification and Maintenance of Communication Structures” (ASSE A10.48). A site-specific structural analysis of a mounting system may be required by

Azimuth of mounting system: the radial direction in plan view that a mount projects outward from the supporting structure. For a sector mount, the direc
、tion normal to the plane formed by the mounting pipes. For a side arm mount, the direction parallel to the plane formed by the side arm. For multiple sector mounts or other similar mount arrangements intended to be assembled at a given elevation as an integral structural system, the direction normal
、 to one sector. Design force: a concentrated force applied at each mounting pipe location for the design or analysis of a mount. Factored: a term used with a load or force to indicate that a load factor has been applied for limit state strength design. Integral mounting system: a mounting system con
、sisting of multiple sectors or other similar mount arrangements intended to be assembled at a given elevation as an integral structural system. Maintenance load: a load that may occur during maintenance operations. Maximum horizontal force: the maximum factored horizontal concentrated force in pound
、s that may be supported at a mounting pipe location (referred to as the constant, F, in this Standard). Maximum vertical force: the maximum factored vertical concentrated force in pounds for an extreme ice condition that may be supported at a mounting pipe location (referred to as the constant, Fzi,
、 in this Standard). Mount category: a letter designation used as part of the mount classification methodology of this Standard that defines the intended application and corresponding strength requirements for a mount. Mount classification: a series of designations that define the intended applicatio
、n of a mount and the maximum loads that may be supported by the mount. Mounting pipe: a tubular member attached to a mount for supporting antennas or other associated appurtenances. Mounting system: a combination of members and components designed to support antennas and associated appurtenances (al
、so referred to as a mount). Nominal: a term used with a load or force to indicate that a load factor has not been applied for limit state strength design. Normal force: a concentrated horizontal force applied at each mounting pipe location for a wind direction parallel to the azimuth of a mounting s
、ystem. For a panel antenna on a sector mount, TIA-5053 Page | 4 the force applied normal to the face of the sector. For a side arm, the force applied in the plane of the side arm. Qualified Engineer: a registered professional engineer knowledgeable and experienced in the communication structures ind
、ustry. Resultant force: a concentrated horizontal force based on the wind direction under consideration applied to each mounting pipe location in the direction of wind being considered. Rigging plan: a systematic and detailed presentation prepared by the contractor showing the equipment and procedur
、es required for construction in accordance with ASSE A10.48 that will provide for the safety of personnel and for the stability of the structure and lifted components. Sector mount: a mount supporting multiple panel type directional antennas intended to provide coverage in a defined direction. Side
、arm: a mount with members in a vertical plane, with or without the use of tie-backs, supporting antenna(s). Tie-back: a horizontal or near horizontal member of a mounting system used solely to prevent rotation (twist) of the mounting system which does not transfer vertical loads to the supporting st
、ructure (also referred to as a strut). Transverse force: a concentrated horizontal force applied at each mounting pipe location for a wind direction perpendicular to the azimuth of a mounting system (resulting in twisting of the mounting system about a vertical axis). For a panel antenna on a sector
、 mount, the force applied parallel to the face of the sector. For a side arm, the force applied normal to the plane of the side arm. Vertical force: a concentrated vertical force applied at each mounting pipe location applied in the vertical downward direction. 1.2 Symbols and Notations Refer to TIA
