8、 A standby generator shall be marked “Standby Service”.(New)7.3 When the temperature within a terminal box exceeds the 60C at a point where field installed leadscan contact, a standby generator shall be additionally marked with the following: CAUTION: Use supplywires suitable for _C or equivalent wo

9、rding. The temperature to be marked shall be 75C, or 90Cfor temperature ranges of 61 75C, 76 90 C, respectively. The marking shall appear on thenameplate, in the terminal box, or near the point where the supply connections are made.Exception: Generators intended for use only as components or specifi

10、c equipment need not be so markedif this information is provided separately.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:Standby generators are intended to provide temporary power under emergency conditions (e.g. untilpower is restored after a storm).The maximum temperature limits in UL 1004-1 are based on a machine oper

11、ating continuously up to thegiven temperature for the entire life of the machine.Since standby generators are intended be operated only under temporary conditions, higher temperaturescan be allowed without compromising the insulation system while still providing an acceptable service lifeof the gene

12、rator.The maximum temperatures allowed for standby generators are 20C below the maximum temperaturelimits for running overload conditions and, depending on the insulation class, between 25-30C below theaverage locked-rotor temperature limits specified in UL 1004-3 for the corresponding insulation cl

13、ass.This Certification Requirement Decision is intended to document the allowable maximum temperatures forstandby generators and aligns with the allowable maximum temperatures for standby generators in otheraccepted standards (i.e. CSA C22.2 No.100).Copyright 2017 UL LLCUL LLC, in performing its fun
