3、thed Heating ElementsDECISION:Supplement SA - Medium Voltage Sheathed Heating ElementsINTRODUCTIONSA1 ScopeSA1.1 These requirements cover industrial-use medium voltage metal-sheathed heating elementsintended for use in appliances and equipment that comply with the requirements for such appliances an

The requirements in this Supplement are applied in addition to the requirements specified inthis standard.SA1.2 These requirements cover sheathed heating elements rated between 601 and 15,000 V. Theserequirements cover between the cold pin of the element and the end cap.SA1.3 These requi

5、rements do not cover heating elements for use in equipment for use in hazardouslocations as defined in the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.SA1.4 Wherever the terms heating element and element are used in these requirements, they areintended to mean a sheathed heating element as defined in Section

6、2.4 of this Standard.SA1.5 The medium in which these elements will be used is to be determined by the end product.SA1.6 These requirements cover cartridge-type sheathed heating elements that do not incorporate a bendin the sheath.SA2 GlossarySA2.1 For the purpose of this supplement the following def

13、e to which the wiring is likely to be subjected.SA7.2 Supplemental Insulation Where the requirements for supplemental insulation (e.g. tape, sleevingor tubing) are not specified, the insulation or device is required to fulfill SA7.3 or a performancerequirement of this Standard. In such cases:a) Slee

14、ving shall comply with the Standard for Coated Electrical Sleeving, UL 1441,b) Tubing shall comply with the Standard for Extruded Insulating Tubing, UL 224.SA7.3 In determining whether splice insulation consisting of coated fabric, thermoplastic, or other type ofsleeving or tubing is acceptable, con

25、ement SA is being added to cover industrial-use medium voltage metal-sheathedheating elements rated between 601 and 15,000 V that are intended for use in appliances and equipment.Similar requirements for Medium Voltage have already been adopted and utilized across otherComponent Standards, such as U

27、5,000 V. These requirements cover only cartridge-type sheathed heating elements that do notincorporate a bend in the sheath. Spacings, per Table 6.1, were developed at 7200 V max and 15000 V max as well as Minthickness for Magnesium Oxide insulation at max Voltage ratings. Medium Voltage Sheathed He

28、ating Element Test Sequence was developed per Table SA8.1; Medium Voltage Sheathed Heating Element Test voltages for dielectric voltage-withstand testin Table SA10.1The Test Sequence in Table SA8.1 differs from a traditional metal Sheathed Element Test Sequence thatis used in free air (worst case) a

29、nd requiring Thermal Endurance. As the Thermal Endurance Test isintended to evaluate stress on the sheath and coil at the bend of an elements construction, and theMedium Voltage Sheathed Heating Elements are only covering cartridge-type sheathed heating elementsthat do not incorporate a bend in the

30、sheath, the Thermal Endurance Test is not considered applicable.This follows the same testing principle for Cartridge elements in UL 499 but UL 1030 Supplement SAprovides a Sequence of Testing as in the base part of UL 1030.In addition, the Resistance to Moisture Test was reduced from a 60 days to 7

31、 days of HumidityConditioning as the Medium Voltage Sheath Elements will be Commercial / Industrial types and will notsee the same issues related to the residential sheath heating elements types. Residential elements wereoften mass produced and stored in warehouses with high humidity that infiltrate

32、d the end seal. This is thesame reason why we allow a 2.5 MIU spike during Leakage Current to burn off this humidity.
