See Table SD5.1, item 4.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:These requirements were developed to assist manufacturers developing LED lamps in

、tended as directreplacements for HID lamps.Since these LED lamps are intended to be installed by an end user and not a qualified service person, they need to demonstrate either proper operation or shutdown without the need to rewire or otherwiseadjust the existing luminaire circuit. It is not feasible

、 to test these LED lamps for compatibility with all previously installed ballasts. Instead, representative electrical and thermal tests would be conducted using a reference ballast circuit as thesupply source for the LED lamp. The reference ballast would comply with all pertinent requirements ofRefer

、ence Ballasts for HID Lamps, ANSI NEMA C82.5, and be adjusted (tuned) for the HID lamp thatthe LED lamp is intended to replace.STANDARD NUMBER: UL 1993 -6-UL COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL NOT AUTHORIZED FOR FURTHER REPRODUCTION ORDISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM ULThe LED lamp would not be permitted to d

、raw more current nor dissipate more power than the typicalcurrent and power characteristics of the HID lamp it is intended to replace at 100 hours of operation. Toaccount for the wide range of ballast factors that could be encountered, the input voltage to the referenceballast is varied between its

、rated value and zero to determine the worst-case current operating conditionof the LED lamp.HID ballasts compliant with the Standard for High Intensity Discharge Ballasts, UL 1029, are evaluated forproper operation and safe shutdown during typical HID lamp fault and end-of-life conditions. UL 1029 d

、oesnot have requirements to determine ballast behavior when an electronic load is connected, or when suchelectronic loads begin to fail. Therefore, these LED lamps would be evaluated to validate that they haveno safety-significant adverse effect on a ballast circuit, both during normal operation and duringsingle-fault conditions.HID ballasts were not generally evaluated for rectification (DC) faults. Therefore, these LED lamps wouldalso be evaluated to validate that the occurrence of such an electrical fault, caused
